This paper presents an investigation on dual-hop cooperative communication systems with regenerative relays over flat Rayleigh fading channels. Potentially relay nodes which can successfully decode the signals cooperatively relay to destination for performance improvement. Maximal-ratio combining (MRC) reception technique is adopted. M-ary phase-shift keying (M-PSK) modulation is evaluated. We first derive symbol error rate (SER) expression of dual-hop communication with MRC scheme. We also derive asymptotic SER expression. With the aid of the asymptotic analysis, asymptotic-optimal power allocation (A-OPA) strategy is determined. It is shown that a significant performance improvement is achieved compared to that of equal power allocation (EPA) strategy.
