The magnitude of leakage loss of Beitang reservoir, Tianjin City, was determined; this was one of the objectives of the study. The Alyamani & Sen Equation, which is an empirical equation based on representative grain-size distribution parameters, was used in hydraulic conductivity, K, determination and Kriging method was applied to estimating the spatial variation of permeability of the reservoir bed. The results show that the average K values of the reservoir bottom sediment is 3.96×10-5 cm s-1, the leakage loss estimated by Darcy equation is 1375.87 m3 d-1, and the north central part of the reservoir displays higher risk of leakage loss. The results indicate that the method of determining K by using grain–size distribution analysis and Alyamani & Sen Equation is suitable for the area with the similar condition, and could provide some useful suggestions for the future work; especially when the traditional method were couldn’t used.
Keywords:hydraulic conductivity; groundwater-surface water interaction; reservoir bottom sediment; grain–size distribution analysis
