Channel capacity has important role in the analysis and design of the communication systems. Unfortunately, for the commonly used one- or two-dimensional modulation constellations, there is no closed form formula to calculate such capacity. In this paper, some simple approximation formulas are presented for evaluating the symmetric capacity of the commonly used constellations under additive white Gaussian noise channel with perfect channel state information at receiver.
