Monolignols (lignin precursors) were catalyzed by Rhus laccases (RL) in organic solvent-water mixture. A simple one-step synthesis of bioactive pinoresinol and its derivatives, lignin and lignan model compounds from coniferyl alcohol and p-courmaryl alcohol etc. with higher yields was achieved by RL catalysis in water miscible organic solvents. The mixture system was believed more suitable and mimic to a virtual state of enzymes in nature system Biomacromolecules dehydrogenative polymers (DHP) were synthesized and the structures and the reaction mechanism were discussed to promote the understanding of the structure of lignin in the process of biosynthesis.
