A new concept: sodium borohydride energy conversion technology based on sodium borohydride as an energy carrier has been introduced. The sodium borohydride energy conversion technology consists of direct borohydride fuel cell (DBFC), hydrogen generation system (HGS) from sodium borohydride hydrolysis and sodium borohydride recovery. The recent progresses in the development of the DBFC, the HGS and the sodium borohydride recovery process are reviewed. It is found that a premature form of the sodium borohydride energy conversion technology has appeared. The advantages and the challenges of this suggested technology have been highlighted and discussed in this review.
