A novel chiral coordination polymer [Ag(pmta)]n (1, pmta- = 2-pyrimidylthioacetate) has been synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, in which the AgI centre is four-coordinated by N, O, O, and S atoms from three different tridentate pmta- ligands to construct two types of coaxial single-stranded helices. The complex exhibits strong fluorescence emission in the solid state and modest power second harmonic generation efficiency at room temperature. The adjustment of helical Ag(I) coordination architectures by two slight different building blocks, pmta- and pyta- (pyta- = 4-pyridylthioacetate), has also been investigated.
Keywords:Crystal structure, Coordination polymer of silver, helix, 2-pyrimidyl thioacetate, 4-pyridylthioacetate.
