There has been a rapid growth of using multimedia in computer-assisted mapping systems to develop interactive, analytic web maps for the past two decades. This paper reports an explanatory study of applying Internet multimedia cartography to tourism industry. A 3D landscape model was built by Google SketchUp and then exported into Google Earth as Keyhole Markup Language (KML) files. This kind of model can be widely used to help potential tourists to explore the world on the internet and decide if it is the right place they will choose for their trips. Customizations could be done without and with programming to personalize their own maps in the purpose of planning trips. A GPS embedded electronic tour guide-handheld device would be developed to help tourists on route with all kinds of information. These three aspects lead to a conclusion that Internet Multimedia Cartography plays an important role in tourism industry.
