Although much research had been focused on the tail of RTD, few attentions were paid to the effect of white noise on the measurement results. The white noise was unavoidable in experiment. Different liquid velocity and dispersion coefficient would be obtained from the same raw experimental data by using different data processing methods. It is important to investigate the effect of white noise on the calculated parameters by using different data processing methods. The anti- disturbance ability of moment method and least square method were investigated. It showed that the anti-disturbance ability of the least square method is better than that of the moment method. Because of the peak overlapping in RTD curve of loop reactor, moment method cannot be used to calculate liquid velocity and dispersion coefficient, while the least square method is still available. Experiment was carried out to examine the practicability of the least square method in loop reactor. It was shown that the least square method is suitable to calculate the liquid velocity and dispersion coefficient in loop reactor.
Keywords:RTD, Moment method, Least square method, dispersion coefficient, liquid circulating velocity
