Electrochemical hydrogen storage of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) electrodes decorated by TiO2 nanoparticles have been studied by galvanostatic charge and discharge experiments. The TiO2 nanoparticles are deposited on the surface of MWCNTs by sol-gel method, and the sample structure has been characterized by various characterization techniques. The study of the electrochemical hydrogen storage of the samples reveals that if the mass ratio of TiO2 and MWCNTs keeps within a certain range, the samples have higher electrochemical hydrogen storage capacity than the pure MWCNTs. Since pure TiO2 nanoparticles themself do not have electrochemical hydrogen storage capacity, they may be as a catalyst in improving the electrochemical hydrogen storage capacity of MWCNTs. The effect can be attributed to the photocatalytic hydrolysis property and preferable redox ability of TiO2 nanoparticles.
