Graphical User Interface (GUI) for applications of embedded devices has been increasingly in demand. Rapid GUI development tools are being required more than ever. In this paper, we introduce two GUI development libraries used to development on Java ME platform. One is Limited Configuration Device User Interface (LCDUI). Another one is Lightweight UI Toolkit (LWUIT). We introduce some important classes of each library and then analyze the performance of the two libraries by comparison on user experience, code complexity, pluggable theme, memory consuming and so forth. We draw the conclusion that LWUIT is more excellent than LCDUI because it not only provides a number of impressive functionalities that facilitate the development of highly attractive and device-independent visual elements to the Java ME UI developer, but also it is easier to use for these UI developers to develop a great look-and-feel program.
