Simulation of bone-like components and microstructure during surface modification of metal implants is an effective approach to enhancement for osteointegration of the implants, and also provides a promising microenvironment for delivering biological factors and anti-inflammation drugs. In this study, a quasi-three dimensional mineralized collagen coating was electrochemically deposited on titanium surface. The influence of the preparation parameters (temperature, voltage) on the deposition of mineralized collagen coatings on titanium substrate was investigated. Microstructure and component of mineralized collagen coatings with different content of mineralization were characterized. The adhesive strength between the mineralized coating and titanium was tested by using the scratch method. In vitro evaluation showed mineralized coatings dissolved quickly in physiological saline but mineralized and tended to be porous in SBF. Cell multiplication test was carried out to determine the toxicity of the mineralized coatings. The present HA/collagen coating demonstrates a good approach to the surface modification of orthopedic implants.
