This paper studies the bond strength between the stainless steel tube and concrete in concrete-filled stainless steel tubes (CFSST). Push-out tests were conducted to compare the bond strength in CFSST columns with that of reference specimens with carbon steel tubes. The test results indicate that the internal surface of a stainless steel tube is usually smoother than that of a carbon steel tube. For this reason, when stainless steel was used to replace carbon steel, significant decrease in bond strength was observed. From the current test results, it is recommended that suitable measures need to be taken to increase the bond strength if the column size is very large and/or the concrete has a high shrinkage potential.
