A novel frequency-doubling optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) based on stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) and double sideband with suppressed carrier (DSB-SC) modulation is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. A polarization modulator (PolM) in combination with an optical polarizer realizes DSB-SC modulation generating a frequency-doubling signal, and the SBS effect provides a gain to amplify optical carrier which ensure a fundamental frequency signal be recovered to keep oscillating in the OEO. In the experiment, the frequency-doubled 6, 9.976 and 20.062 GHz microwave signal are generated.
Keywords:Optoelectronic oscillator, stimulated Brillouin scattering, frequency-doubling, polarization modulation.
