This paper presents a new control algorithm for low-cost small power wind turbine systems with topology which consists of wind turbine, directly coupled permanent synchronous generator, rectifier, boost circuit and resistive load. The system structure and characteristics are studied and analyzed in the paper. The control strategy for generator side converter is based on extracting the maximum mechanical power from the wind turbine and sliding mode control for boost circuits. Simulation results validate and confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.
