In this paper, a comprehensive integrated long term planning approach for the transmission and distribution systems is proposed. The presented method involves iterative loops between the transmission and distribution system models to ensure the validity of results with respect to both systems. The presented planning approach can be seen as a simplified dynamic planning in a step by step manner, and in each single-time period transmission system expansion planning and distribution system expansion planning are reviewed and coordinated iteratively. A real system of a certain utility at Texas USA is investigated, and the simulation results show that the proposed method is feasible and effective.
