In vision research, publications relate to 'visual sensitivity' are often restricted to one of the three dimensions: absolute visual sensitivity, contrast sensitivity and spectral/temporal sensitivity. Our own research using the zebrafish model (Danio rerio) is mainly concerned with absolute sensitivity, and to a lesser extent, contrast and spectral/temporal sensitivity. In this paper, we will review the usefulness of zebrafish as a model system for behavioral and genetic studies of absolute visual sensitivity.
Keywords: animal; zebrafish; retina; mutation; behavioral test; visual sensitivity
