Linear disc cutting test is a traditional method to investigate rock fragmentation process under disc cutter. This paper presents a Distinct Element Method (DEM) based model to simulate rock fragmentation process induced by two disc cutters. Relationships between cutter displacement and vertical forcemicro crackscracked particles are analyzed. It is discovered that rock fragmentation is caused by a series of shear failure & tensile failure and tensile failure is predominant. Furthermore, chips formulated with these micro cracks propagating, and fragmentation is a accelerative process. Research on disc cutting is the basis of cutter design and cutter layout
