In this paper, a facile hydrothermal method to synthetise a novel electrode material of NiCo2O4 nanosuperstructures. An ultrasensitive and good stabilized electrochemical sensor based on this NiCo2O4 nanosuperstructures was proposed to determine 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BAP). The electrochemical investigation confirms that NiCo2O4 nanosuperstructures stabilized by polyethyleneimine (PEI) could remarkably boost the electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation response of 6-BAP because of its unique properties of large pore volume, good electrical conductivity and metal catalysis. The fabricated electrochemical sensor showed a wide linear range of 6-BAP detection from 0.1 nM to 10 μM with a low limit of detection 0.1 nM. Therefore, this novel developed sensor based on PEI-NiCo2O4/GCE was also applied to quantitative determination food borne contamination to monitor food safety.
