It is paramount to advance the capabilities of non-enzymatic glucose biosensors for the diagnosis and control of diabetes. Here we reported a disposable microneedle-type glucose biosensor prepared by engineering three-dimensional nanoporous gold/NiCo2O4 ultrathin nanosheets hybrid microelectrodes. This low-cost flexible hybrid microelectrode exhibited an excellent linearity in the range of 0.01 to 21.24 mM with a rapid response time of less than 1 s at 0.45 V and a low detection limit of 1 μM (S/N = 3). The remarkable enhancement in electrochemical performance originated from the good conductivity and large surface area of the NPG/NiCo2O4 hybrid microelectrode, which enhanced the mass- and charge-transport processes during the electrochemical reactions. The disposable and efficient NPG/NiCo2O4 hybrid microelectrode is a promising non-enzymatic glucose sensor for a variety of practical applications.
