A series of diblock copolymers with polystyrene as coil segment and bent-core mesogen-jacketed liquid crystalline polymer as rigid segment were synthesized via sequential atom transfer radical polymerization. SAXS and WAXD studies revealed that these rod-coil blocks packed together forming a layer structure, with the rod axes parallel to the lamellar normal. Within the lamellar structure, PVC14 rods packed with high hexagonal order.
