The formation of the Ⅳ-ⅥA compound SnSex on a slice-like gold plane electrode at room temperature by electrochemical atomic layer epitaxy (EC-ALE) is reported here. In electrodeposition, surface limited reactions are used to form atomic layers of the elements making up a compound (Sn and Se) in a cycle. Cyclic voltammograms were used to determine approximate deposition potentials for each element. The amperometric I-t method was used to deposit the compound of SnSex. The film’s structure was characterized by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The results were consistent with the layer-by-layer growth mode and the principles of atomic layer epitaxy. It was found that the thin films contain the properties of the photon crystals.
