A novel purification method is proposed to remove trace silicon impurity from aluminum tri-isopropoxide. By interacting a lanthanide-metal complex with the silicon impurity in aluminum tri-isopropoxide, an involatile silicon-containing compound is formed. After a vacuum distillation the silicon content in aluminum tri-isopropoxide can be reduced from 16 ppm to less than 2.6 ppm. The purification process was described and discussed.
