In long-reach RSOA based WDM-PON, the upstream transmission is impacted by the unavoidable Rayleigh backscattering because the downstram and upstream links share the same wavelength. To fix the impairment, a viable option is to separate the signal frequency spectrums of downstream and upstream. In this paper, a scheme of 100-km WDM-PON with 10Gbit/s high power efficient coded downstream signals and 2.5Gbit/s NRZ upstream signal is proposed and simulated. The performances of downstream and upstream are compared respectively when NRZ, RZ, IRZ or PPM code is used in downstream. And the relationship between the receive sensitivity of downstream/upstream and the extinction ratio of downstream signal is discussed definitively.
