Reconstruction Algorithm for the Probabilistic Inspection of Damage ( RAPID ) is a new promising tomography approach for the detection and monitoring of the critical area in a structure. Current RAPID algorithm based on global interrogations may bring spurious result when the key sensing paths intersect with each other. The spurious result always arise at the area around the crossover point., A new approach of local interrogations using a clock-like sensor array is established to solve this problem. In this method, the whole monitoring area is divided into a few subareas, and RAPID algorithm is performed in each subarea separately. Image fusion techniques are then introduced to reduce artifacts across the entire monitoring area. The performance of this algorithm in single defect identifications and multiple defects identifications is also investigated, which shows that the proposed algorithm is capable of identifying single or multiple defects in plate-like structures.
