We have synthesized aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES) decorated zinc oxide (ZnO) nanocrystals, and investigated their optical property and cytotoxicity properties. Transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering and X-ray diffraction analysis, demonstrated that crystalline ZnO nanoparticles had been synthesized by using sol-gel method with an average size of 8 nm. The APTES decorated ZnO nanocrystals showed a stable and broad emission band with peak position at around 540-550 nm under excitation of a 330 nm Xe-lamp line. Cell viability analysis indicated that the decorated ZnO nanocrystals had not significant influence on the cervical carcinoma cell proliferation until the concentration was up to of 20μg/mL.)
Keywords:ZnO nanocrystals; sol-gel method; APTES decoration; biocompatibility
