Title: Degradable magnesium alloy material AZ31 characterization of coating polymer and its blood compatibility

Abstract: We prepared poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) polymer coating on magnesium alloy material by dip coating. The structure of polymer coating was detected by infrared spectrum and the hydropathy of the materials was detected by static water contact angle tester. The blood compatibility of the materials was analyzed with emphasis from the hemolysis rate test. The results show that PHB polymer coating is in favor of protecting magnesium alloy and slowing the degradation rate. The hemolysis rate of magnesium alloy after coating was lower than 5%, which will meet the requirement of medical materials.

Title: Establishment of culture system of Arctium lappa L. hairy roots and determination of the secondary metabolites

Abstract: Objective: To establish the hairy roots culture system of Arctium lappa L. and study the hair roots growth and analyze secondary metabolites, which is polysaccharide content in hair roots culturing system. Methods: Leaf blades, stems and roots of A. lappa L. were infected by Agrobacterium rhizogenes R1000,R1 and R15834, respectively. Hairy root was optimized to expand the training system and detected on PCR. The arctinin of different parts of A. lappa L. were determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and the results were compared with each other. Results: The strain R1 could make root inductivity, the PCR examination result showed that genes was inserted into the hairy roots of root by A. lappa L.. Hairy roots were further cultured 28 days, dry weight, fresh weight and biomass accumulation all went to the highest. Secondary metabolite, arctinin, in hairy root of A. lappa L. was 1.16 times higher than in seeds. Conclusion: Through these experiments, hairy root of A. lappa L. was established preliminarily, which laid a foundation for the massive cultivation and producing higher content of arctinin.

Title: Effects of high iron and manganese concentrations on Phytolacca acinosa Roxb. growth

Abstract: Using the method of hydroculture, the study was researched to investigate the effects of high iron and manganese concentrations on Phytolacca acinosa Roxb. growth. Iron-manganese oxidizing bacterium and P. acinosa were co-cultured to investigate the effects of the initial concentration of Fe2+, Mn2+, the inoculation concentration of iron-manganese oxidizing bacterium, and pH level on P. acinosa Roxb. growth. By observing P. acinosa Roxb. growth development and measuring the underground and aboveground biomass, the suitable conditions of P. acinosa Roxb. growth under high iron and manganese concentrations complex stress was determined, which would lay a foundation for the establishment of plant-microorganism combined remediation technology to repair heavy metal contaminated environment.

Title: Responses of growth and inorganic ions of two Chinese Irises from different origins in NaCl stress and recovery process

Abstract: In this study, seeds of Chinese iris [Iris lactea Pall. var. chinensis (Fisch.) Koidz.] were collected in Beijing and Xinjiang. Their seedlings were then put into hydroponic experiments with two concentrations of NaCl stress (140, 280 mmol·L-1) and subsequent recovery treatments i. e. a total of 12 plots after interactive combination. By analyzing the stress-recovery effect of growth and ionic contents to study the salt tolerances of two irises, it is found that the growth inhibition of Xinjiang iris by salt is lighter, thus the growth rate after subsequent recovery treatment is faster. The inhibition of NaCl of the water content of shoots is greater than those of roots, and the water deficit of Beijing iris is greater than that of Xinjiang iris. Xinjiang iris has stronger ion selectivity than that of Beijing iris, which is mainly shown in transportation of ions during salt stress period. After recovery, the level of increment of K+ content in the shoots of Xinjiang iris is higher than that of Beijing iris. The salt tolerance of Xinjiang iris is greater than that of Beijing iris.

Title: A study of symbioses between Alocasia odora and pollinators

Abstract: The foraging behaviors of pollinators in the Alocasia odora spadix were studied by field observation of the A. odora flowering phase in this paper. The results showed that the lower part of the A. odora spadix was female flowers, the upper part was male flowers, while the male sterile flowers were between them. Female flowers mature faster than male flowers. The spathe of the female flowers always closed after the female flowers were pollinated, then the male flowers started to mature and the pollens were spread. The pollinators climbed to the male sterile zone to feed, oviposit and carry its pollens. After the male flowers releasing pollen, the pollinators flied to another female flowers phase of A. odora to continue to pollinate. This experiment would be of great significance on revealing the A. odora and pollinators symbiosis mechanism.

Title: Changes of rotation behavior of mice with Parkinson’s disease in different modeling time

Abstract: Objective: To further explore the method of making a Parkinson’s disease (PD) rat model by injecting 6-hydroxydopamine and to provide guidance for identifying the PD rat model. Methods: We took male Wistar rats as the object of study. Both the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) were injected with 6-hydroxydopamine to make a PD rat model. Then neck muscles were injected with apomophine to induce rotation and the change of rotation behavior, which was observed after different surgery time. At the same time, histological was observed to verify rotation experiment results. Results: Within two weeks, all rats rotated in both directions and the degeneration of neurons which located in the rats lesioned brain SNc was not significant. After three weeks, two out of six rats were made model successfully, the success rate was 33.33%. After four weeks, five out of six rats were made model successfully, the success rate was 83.33%. The number of dopaminergic neuron which located in the PD rats lesioned brain SNc was reduced significantly. The integrity of the nucleus and cytoplasm were destroyed. The glial cells showed obvious hyperplasia. Conclusion: The above mentioned method was effective to make a PD rat model. The success rate was the highest after four weeks.

Title: Calcium signal in B cell regulated by the stiffness of the substrate presenting antigen

Abstract: Poly-dimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is used to simulate antigen presentation with different stiffness substrates. Confocal microscopy is applied to collect calcium signal image data from B cells which have recognized antigen coated on substrate with different stiffness. The results show that antigens on stiffer surface induce higher frequency of occurrence of calcium oscillation compared to that on less stiffer surface, more swift amplitude attenuation, but shorter duration of single calcium oscillation.

Title: Proliferation promotion of tenocytes through ERK1/2 on conditioned medium from rat bone marrow derived

Abstract: Objective: To study the effect of conditioned medium from rat bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (rMSC-CM) on the proliferation of rat tenocytes and the related mechanisms. Methods: Rat bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (rMSCs) and tenocytes were primary cultured; 90% rMSCs fusion were cultured for 24 h in serum free medium and the supernatant was collected as rMSC-CM. Cytometry was performed to detect the proliferation of tenocytes. Western blotting and PD98059, the inhibitor of extracellular regulated protein kinases 1/2 (ERK1/2), were used to investigate the effect of ERK1/2 on the rMSC-CM-induced tenocyte proliferation. Results: Western blotting showed that rMSC-CM treatment of 24 h can significantly promote the proliferation of tenocytes and the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 in tenocytes was promoted by 15 min of rMSC-CM treatment. PD98059 blocked the rMSC-CM-activated ERK1/2 and suppressed the rMSC-CM-promoted tenocyte proliferation. Conclusion: rMSC-CM promotes tenocyte proliferation through the activation of ERK1/2.

Title: A new biological control of cobweb disease on Hypsizygus marmoreus

Abstract: In this study, we compare the inhibitory effects on pathogenic bacteria and cobweb disease on strains of Hypsizigus marmoreus of the single and mixed fermentation broth of Bacillus subtilis, Streptomycetaceae Js-1T, Trichoderma harzianum Tri.sp49 and Trichoderma viride Tri.sp53. The results show the fermentation broth of Streptomycetaceae Js-1T has strong inhibitory effect to the pathogen of cobweb disease, while smaller inhibitory effect on H. marmoreus. On the other hand, we also find mixed fermentation broth of Bacillus and Trichoderma have stronger inhibitory effect than the single fermentation, which provides a new and very promising biological control method.

Title: Effects of hot water extract of spent mushroom substrate from Ganoderma lucidum cultivated by JUNCAO on IL-1β, TNF-α and IFN-γ in serum of immune-deficient mice

Abstract: This experiment studied the immunity in immune-deficient mice by cyclophosphamidum based on that hot water extract of spent mushroom substrate from Ganoderma lucidum cultivated by JUNCAO (abbreviated as HWE) can enhance the immune function in normal mice by measuring the concentrations of IL-1β, IFN-γ, TNF-α in serum. And the HWE dose on the mice the groups of blank control group (CK1), control group (CK2), cyclophosphamidum model (CY), CY+low HWE (CL), CY+medium HWE (CM), CY+high HWE (CH) were 0, 1.0, 0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 g/kg BW, respectively. The experiment results showed that, compared to CY, IL-1β in serum of CK1 and CK2 were significantly decreased (P<0.01), and TNF-α in serum of CL, CM, CH were decreased, where there was no significant difference (P>0.05), IFN-γ in serum of CL, CM, CH were markedly decreased compared to CK1 (P<0.01). And the results indicate that HWE can enhance the spleen index and thymus index and inhibit the concentration of IL-1β, TNF-α and IFN-γ in serum.

At present, studies showed that the metabolic disorders in IBD involved sugars, amino acids, short chain fatty acids etc. These metabolites maybe the future effective targets for treating IBD.
