Macroscopic chirality resolution was observed in smectic phase formed by 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives, and the bent angle of 1,3,4-oxadiazole group was thought to be important origin. Freeze-Fracture Transmission Electron Microscopy study revealed the layer curvature and the formation of the helical filament structure.
