Biomaterials may be defined as designed materials, which are used in contact and interact with tissue, blood, cells, proteins and any other living substance. The recent developments and applications of polymeric biomaterials in the field of drug delivery and tissue engineering were reviewed. The review suggests a potential future for biomaterials in the pharmaceutical, biomedical and biological fields.
