Abstract:his paper investigated the improvement of spray characteristics and exhaust emissions of diesel engines by reformulating the fuel compounds and physico-chemical parameters. Three oxygenated fuels including ethanol, dimethyl carbonate (DMC), and dimethoxy methane (DMM) were applied to mix with diesel. Basic properties directly related to engine parameters and those characterizing fuel quality were investigated. The laser phase doppler anemometry (PDA) analyzer system was applied to obtain the spray characteristics, including the Sauter mean diameter (SMD) and axial mean velocity distribution, of DMM-diesel hybrid fuels. Furthermore, engine tests of oxygenated hybrid fuels were performed on a 4-cylinder, water-cooled high speed DI diesel engine. The results show that the evaporation properties and the fuel transportation parameters could be optimized using hybrid fuel, and the engine behavior seemed to be improved in the presence of oxygenated additives with a reduction of poll

Abstract:his article investigates the influence of cetane number improver on heat release rate and emissions of a high-speed diesel engine fueled with ethanol-diesel blend fuel. Different percentage of cetane number enhancer (0%、0.2%、0.4%)were added to blends, and the engine tests were performed on a high speed diesel engine. The results show that: the engine power decreased slightly, the thermal efficiency improved remarkably, and the NOx and smoke emissions decreased simultaneously when diesel engine fueled with blends; the engine power can be recovered, NOx and smoke emissions further reduced when CN improver were added to blends. From the combus-tion analysis, it can be found that the ignition delay prolonged, the total combustion duration shortened, and the maximum heat release rate increased for ethanol-diesel blend fuel when compared to diesel fuel; the combustion characteristics of ethanol-diesel blend fuel at large load may be recovered to diesel fuel by CN improver, but a large diffe

Abstract:bstract: In recent years, a considerable amount of research effort has gone into the investigation of free and/or forced vibration characteristics of a spinning shaft with attached discs, but there has been less research on the transverse vibration of a high-speed diesel engine crankshaft system under firing conditions. This paper presents a new exact general approach based on a distributed continuous model to study the free and forced bending vibrations of an engine crankshaft. Distributed continuous models of the crankshafts for a four-cylinder (with a capacity of 3.8 l ) and an in-line six-cylinder (with a capacity of 5.8 l ) direct-injection diesel engine were constructed. The general frequency equation and mode shapes for the bending vibration of the total crankshaft under operating conditions were obtained using the coefficients transfer matrix method. Modelling and analysis procedures were applied to the crankshaft systems of two diesel engines, and the inherent freque
