Abstract:A new and facile route has been developed to synthesize beta-Ni(OH)2 nanostructures using ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([Bmim]BF4) as reaction media under solvothermal conditions. The beta-Ni(OH)2 with different morphologies, such as nanoflakes, nanoplatelet and nanorods, can be obtained by controlling the volume ratio of the ionic liquid to water and reaction temperature. The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The as-prepared beta-Ni(OH)2 composite electrodes were prepared by mixing 10 wt.% samples with common spherical Ni(OH)2 to carry out charge-discharge test. The results show that the as-prepared beta-Ni(OH)2 composite electrodes have higher discharge specific capacity, and the beta-Ni(OH)2 nanoflakes show a better electrochemical performance than the others.

Abstract:Phase relation in the Pt-Zn binary system from 63.08 to 84.51 at.% Zn between 736-1090 K has been investigated by an isopiestic method. The phase boundaries of four intermetallic compounds were fixed based on the experimental data. Activities and partial molar enthalpies of zinc in the Pt-Zn system in the temperature range of 736-1090 K were derived from isopiestic method. The partial molar entropies of zinc were obtained by application of the Gibbs-Helmholtz relations.
