Abstract:Reviewing a composition to correct any weakness is an important part of the writing process. Students differ on different revision strategies at different linguistic level. Some students tend to revise vocabulary while others try to review sentence or discourse structure. Currently, plenty of colleges arrange compositions under the Automated Essay Scoring system (AES) , in which students can revise their compositions according to suggestions from the system. Theoretically, based on revision strategies, this thesis researches which kind of linguistic revision strategies non-English majors are most likely to use when writing on Automated Essay Scoring and why. A quantitative-plus-qualitative research is carried out to examine the questions. 52 students' compositions written on jukuu automated scoring system will be researched for text analysis. What's more, an interview of five students will be taken for further analysis. The survey shows that less-satisfied students can only make some surface revision, such as spelling, punctuation, grammar and so on, rather than on high-level revision like structure. Although the Automated Essay Scoring is helpful and efficient, teachers in college should lead students to revise on level of structure, and attention to detail with high-level students. | |||
