Abstract:TiO2 thin films fabricated by direct-current (DC) reactive magnetron sputtering were implanted with Ag ions at 30 kV to fluences of 1×1016, 3×1016 and 5×1016 ions/cm2, and subsequently annealed at 500 C for 2 h under Ar ambient. Cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies showed that the implanted Ag ions were incorporated in TiO2 to form Ag2O after thermal annealing. The Ag-implanted TiO2 film with fluence of 3×1016 ions/cm2 after an annealing showed improved photocatalytic efficiency comparing to TiO2 film. When the implantation fluence increased to the 5×1016 ions/cm2, the sample showed poorer phtotcatalytic efficiency. These results indicate that there exists an optimum Ag ions implantation fluence. The photocatalytic behavior can be explained by the effect of Ag+ on the physicochemical properties in terms of electronic structures and film texture.

Abstract:Hard X-ray grating-based imaging has the most potential in clinical applications because it works well with conventional X-ray tubes and provides multiple information (absorption, refraction and scattering) simultaneously. However, grating-based imaging adopts a series of images to retrieve multiple information, which significantly increases the exposure time and doses compared with conventional X-ray imaging. In this paper, we propose an optimized three-image-based multiple information retrieval (TIB-MIR) algorithm for low-dose grating-based imaging. The errors of the retrieval information are minimal in the case of three steps with equal intervals of within one period, which is equivalent to the 3-step fringe-scanning algorithm. Furthermore, in the case of Poisson noise model and equal doses, the method can obtain equivalent image quality compared with fringe-scanning method.

Abstract:In this paper, the possibility using micromegas (Micro-Mesh Gaseous Structure) as neutron detector in 14 MeV neutron computed tomography (CT) is studied by simulation. The simulation results show that micromegas neutron detector has high spatial resolution and is a good candidate for neutron radiography. The three-dimensional images of plant roots in soil are successfully and clearly obtained by the 14 MeV neutron CT with micromegas as neutron detector. In the present simulation, MCNP is employed for 14MeV neutron transport in the sample and Matlab for the 3-D photograph reconstruction.

Abstract:The defects on a highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) surface induced by slow highly charged Arq+ ions with impact energy of 20-2000qeV are investigated with scanning probe microscopy (SPM). The average lateral size and height of nano-dots were obtained. Their dependency on the potential and kinetic energy of HCIs were discussed. A Coulomb Explosion (CE) model was applied to analysis nano-defect effect. According to the calculated results, the ratio of the potential energy of HCI deposited on the solid surface can be known. Besides, formation mechanism and height of the nano-dots are discussed.

Abstract:We investigated the asymmetrical conductance behavior of a polymer based conical nanopore. The current rectification effect happened inside this negatively charged conical nanopore is influenced by the concentration and pH value of the electrolyte. Theoretical analysis and calculation based on Poisson-Nernst-Planck (PNP) equations were conducted to understand the mechanism of the asymmetrical conductance behavior. The difference in transmembrane current at opposite voltage bias is induced by the difference in ionic strength in external field. For pores with extremely tiny tip down to 2 nanometers, its rectification coefficients are particularly high. We attribute this effect to the overlap of the electrical double layer. In addition, we have also demonstrated the model calcium ions detector based on our conical nanopore system. It is sensitive to both pH values of the environmental solution and the concentration of the calcium ions presence, and, its resolution power is high.
