Abstract:Manufacture of 2-methylenglutaronitrile (MGN) from acrylonitrile dimerization with two kinds of imidazolium ionic liquids, i.e., [Bmim]Cl and [Emim]BF4, was studied in this paper. The influences of reaction temperature, reaction time, the amount of catalyst and that of ionic liquid on the yield of MGN were investigated by the method of single-factor experiment. The results illustrared that the yield of MGN with [Emim]BF4 ionic liquid is higher than that with [Bmin]Cl. The ionic liquids can be recycled for 4 runs by extraction with toluene and no significant catalytic activity loss was observed. An orthogonal experimental table with the five-factor and four-level, denoted as L16(45), was designed for optimizing the operation conditions of MGN synthesis. The optimal results illustrated that the maximum yield of MGN could rise above 90.5% under the conditions of 50 C, 24h, 2.0g catalyst and 5.0g ionic liquid, which is higher than that of the literatures reported.

Abstract:A facile high yield synthetic route has been established for the synthesis of hyperbranched heterocyclic azo chromophores. These chromophores were intentionally designed as a dendritic structure to study structure-property relationships. These chromophores have been studied with respect to their solvatochromism and thermal behaviour. Molecular structural characterization for the resulting chromophores was achieved by 1H NMR, FT–IR, Elements Analysis, UV-vis spectra and TG. The chromophores exhibit excellent solubility in common organic solvents, high transparency and thermal stability up to 254℃.
