1. A Software-Controlled Cache Coherence Optimization for Snoopy-based SMP system

Show/Hide Abstract | Cite this paper︱Full-text: PDF (0 B)
Abstract:Some testing results show that on average 67% of broadcasts for the maintenance of cache coherence in SMP systems are unnecessary. To reduce the unnecessary overhead of snoopy-based embedded SMP systems, this paper proposes a new software/hardware hybrid cache coherence optimization—the programmer can insert special instructions into programs to direct related hardware to enable/disable broadcast operations, so some potential broadcasts for unshared variables are avoided without violating data coherence. We design the mechanism along with a proposed coherence protocol. Moreover, it is simulated on a SMP simulation platform and the results show that the improvement is apparent. Although the insertion is manual, we believe it accords with the existing SMP programming model.

Abstract:This paper describes an approach to add QoS-awareness for Web service with semantics. A QoS ontology is proposed and expressed in Web Ontology Language (OWL) . Composition of this ontology includes upper-level profile ontology and lower-level property ontology. Meanwhile, a set of rules defined by Semantic Web Rule Language (SWRL) are also described and designed for reasoning with information expressed using QoS ontology and targets at acquiring more advanced knowledge based on simple ones. The corresponding knowledge base (QoS ontology and individuals) and rule repository have been implemented as part of PISOMWare project, which provides semantic enabled service discovery, service selection, service composition and service monitoring with QoS-aware support. Typical experiment results listed in final section shows that more semantics have been brought to Web Service.

Abstract:Floorplan is an very important step in the physical design of VLSI circuits. It is the rectangular packing problem: Given a set of rectangular modules, place them non-overlapping on a plane within a rectangle of minimum area. Since the variety of packing is uncountable infinite, the key issue is to find the optimal solution in the finite solution space. It is hard to be solved exactly in practical applications. An approach is presented to improve the area utilization based on B*-tree. The simulated annealing is embedded into the tabu search for floorplan. Experimental results show that our approach can improve the area utilization in short time.

Abstract:This paper introduces and analyzes the Web applications based on the point of view of computer mediated communication through theories and examples. For instance, the Web based ICT technology was analyzed through the Media’s Law which is a general guide for communication. Meanwhile, by discussing the communication history, I try to make the computer scientists aware that they are in the process of “communication revolution” of human being and as the protagonists they should have a high point of view of the whole society when doing research or design, favoring the positive ones and avoid the negative ones as possible as they could. From this article we can see that Web applications based on computer mediated communication has already changed or impacted the whole society. However, as the degree of development of Internet, the computer mediated communication revolution is only really at the beginning.

Abstract:Nowadays the workflow application is getting more and more popular to facilitate the grid user to solve complicated computing problems in the distributed resources. Due to the functional mismatch of the workflow management and resource management in the grid computing, we propose a new architecture of PQRM-based Pegasus workflow system, which is able to satisfy the grid workflow builder with SLA guarantees. The functionalities of each component in the integrated system will be specified in this paper as well as the algorithm realizing the SLA specification in the integrated model. Experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance under different SLAs and the discussion based on the trials will be followed at last.

Abstract:The problem of finding small universal spiking neural P systems was recently investigated by Andrei Puǎn and Gheorghe Pǎun,for spiking neural P systems used as devices computing functions and as devices generating sets of numbers. For the first case, a universal spiking neural P system was produced by using 84 neurons for standard rules and using 49 neurons for extended rules. For spiking neural P systems used as generators of sets of numbers, a universal system with standard rules having 76 neurons, and one with extended rules having 50 neurons were obtained. In this paper, we continue the study of small universal spiking neural P systems and we improve in the number of neurons as follows. The small universal spiking neural P systems use 67 neurons for standard rules and 41 neurons for extended rules in the case of computing functions, and 63 neurons for standard rules and 41 neurons for extended rules in the case of generating sets of numbers.

Abstract:Electronic payment is a critical technology to ensure the normal running of electronic commerce. E-payment can work on Internet, mobile phone and PSTN. They achieve security mainly through SSL and SET. However, the detailed implementations are different. This paper researches the secure schemes of them and seeks a proper way to ensure the security of e-payment on PSTN network on which there is not even an operative method.

9. Elman-style Process Neural Network and Its Learning Algorithm

Abstract:In reality, the inputs of many complicated systems are continuous time-varying functions or processes. It is difficult for traditional Elman neural networks (ENN) to simulate such complicated nonlinear systems directly because their inputs are all instantaneous constant values. In order to overcome this limitation, an Elman process neural network (EPNN) is proposed in this paper. From the point view of architecture, the EPNN is similar to the ENN. The major characteristics which distinguish the EPNN from the ENN lie in the fact that the inputs and the connection weights of the EPNN are time-varying functions. A corresponding learning algorithm based on the expansion of the orthogonal basis functions is developed. The effectiveness of the EPNN and its learning algorithm is proved by the lubricating oil iron concentration prediction in the aircraft engine condition monitoring, and the application test results indicate that the EPNN has a faster learning speed and a higher accuracy than the same scale ENN.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a novel data-mining algorithm, called LPS-Miner, to mine the complete frequent patterns in the transaction database. LPS-Miner algorithm bases the pattern growth principle and uses two new data structures, LPS-FP-Tree (Light Partial-Support FP-Tree) and LPS-Forest (Light Partial-Support FP-Tree Forest) to present the database. LPS-FP-Tree is a variation of FP-Tree with lighter and unidirectional nodes and mining process depends on partial-support of the patterns. The algorithm adopts partition and divide-and-conquer strategies in maximum, which decomposes the mining task into a set of smaller tasks. The light data structure and the efficient memory management mechanism keep the memory usage stable and efficient. Moreover, other implementation-based optimizations, such as pruning and outputting-optimization, make the algorithm achieve high efficiency. We test our c++ implementation of this algorithm versus several other algorithms on four datasets. The experimental results show that our algorithm has better space and time efficiency.
