Abstract:Visual perception is a key component of an autonomous vehicle system. Road detection is an essential function of a visual navigation system for an autonomous vehicle. In most cases detecting lane markings is one feasible and efficient approach to road detection. However, in some situation, for example, many rural roads have no lane markings. Furthermore, lacking of sharp, smooth edges and homogeneous surface brings difficulties to road detection. A texture analysis based vanishing point estimation method is used to detect road in this paper. The idea is that consistency in texture leads to the vanishing point in an image. The method uses the Sobel filter to compute the texture orientations. Then the vanishing point of the road is voted from the orientation of the texture. Finally, the vanishing point is used to constrain the searching of two road boundaries since they pass through the vanishing point.

Abstract:The small unmanned helicopter landing systems usually identify a specific shape on the ground to calculate the distance between helicopter and the target. In this paper, we use a new method. When the unmanned helicopter is landing, the aerial system identifies the QR code on the ground, parses out the information contained, then determines whether the QR code is the place to land. If the helicopter should land on the QR code, the height and distance between helicopter and QR code should be calculated. Using the geometric relationship of the three find patterns of QR code in different coordinate systems, we can calculate the height and distance between the camera and QR code. As the positional relationship between the camera and helicopter is known, the height and distance between helicopter and QR code can be calculated. The information of height and distance will be transmitted to the flight control system on the board of the small unmanned helicopter, which controls the helicopter land.

Abstract:With the amount of information increasing on the Internet, text search cannot meet the demands of the people, Content-based image retrieval has gradually been familiar to the people. However, its promotion is limited due to the unsatisfactory image search results. Meanwhile, the last retrieval results are affected by the measure and matching methods of local features. In this paper, a measurement method of image features has been presented, we calculate the dimension weight value based on the priori knowledge. Compared with the traditional methods, the experimental results indicate that our method improves the recall and precision ration of image retrieval.

Abstract:Construction of quadtree and selection of the best geometry direction (BGDS) are the most time-consuming parts in 2G Bandelet Transform, and the result of original method is not the best. To solve the problem, in this paper, a BGDS method based on the advance and retreat method was presented firstly; then the genetic algorithm for BGDS was proposed; finally, these two methods were combined to get better results. Experiments show that these three methods all have some advantages compared with original method. Furthermore, the original bottom-up quadtree algorithm was improved to a top-down quadtree algorithm, which has some advantages in processing some special images. In the ending of this paper, the application of improved bandelet based on genetic algorithm was presented, and the time complexity and space complexity of these algorithms were compared.

Abstract:Aimed at the safety problem of digital image transmission, a new image scrambling algorithm based on changing the pixel values was presented in this paper. The algorithm improves the "Vigenere encryption" algorithm, made it suitable in the digital image encryption. Experiment results show that, this algorithm brings the conception of "keyword" which is important in the cryptography in the digital image encryption algorithm. To a certain degree, it enhanced the security of scrambling image, compared with the algorithm which is based on changing the pixels position. This method not only provides with a better scrambling effect, but also changes the gray histogram of scrambling image obviously. Besides, this method has a better ability of resist noise compared with the "Bit-exclusive-or" algorithm -the traditional image scrambling algorithm based on changing the single pixel values.

Abstract:Tag ranking has become a hot research topic due to its importance for image analysis and retrieval. Existing annotation methods about tag ranking can be roughly classified into two categories: tag relevance ranking and tag saliency ranking. Both methods have pros and cons. In this paper, we propose an adaptive tag ranking based on saliency analysis which combines the advantages of tag relevance ranking and tag saliency ranking. The main idea behind the approach is apparently simple. In short, to the given image, we first carry out image salient region detection and image saliency analysis by machine learning techno-logies like Support Vector Machine (SVM). If there exist visually salient regions of the given image, the corresponding annotated tags can be ranked according to the saliency property of the corresponding visual content; else tags can be ranked according to the relevance scores to the content of the image. The performance will be better than existing methods. To demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithm, we do experiments on the COREL and MSRC image datasets.

7. Multiple Description Video Coding Using Rate-Distortion Optimized Temporal Sampling

Abstract:In this paper, an effective multiple description video codec is designed based on pre- and post-processing of video sequences without modifying the actual coding process itself, which makes it compatible with the current standard coding. In pre-processing, adaptive modes of temporal sampling are employed to regulate the motion change between frames before performing odd/even frame splitting, which facilitates a good estimation of lost frames in post-processing after side decoding. In particular, given a central distortion, rate-distortion optimization with La-grangian formulation is applied in pre-processing to achieve a good tradeoff between bit rate and side distortion. Furthermore, for simplicity of the Lagrangian multiplier selection, a new optimization criterion is proposed based on the correlation of intra-/inter-description. The experimental results exhibit better performance of the proposed scheme than other tested schemes.

Abstract:This paper presents an efficient Omni-directional Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (vSLAM) algorithm based on spherical camera model and 3D modeling. In the paper, the robot has the ability of Omni-directional vision, which makes the algorithm more adaptive in an unknown environment. To get spherical panoramic images, we choose the panoramic image acquisition and mosaic equipment (divergent camera cluster). The improved SURF on spherical image, is adopted for feature extraction and matching. According to the theory of multiple view geometry of the spherical camera model, the 3D modeling is conducted for the surrounding environment. By using the feature points with high robustness, the location and pose of the robot can be estimated. In the process of system updating, the particle filter combined with Kalman filter is used for it can perform well in a complex environment. The results of numerical simulations and experiments have been included in this paper to verify the performance of the proposed approach.

Abstract:In this paper, using the operator splitting technique, we propose a fast alternating iterative algorithm for the fractional-order total variation regularized model with general fidelity term. As an application, we use the new algorithm to solve two models for multiplicative noise removal with different fidelity terms. To improve the performance, we choose the parameters adaptively and propose an adaptive algorithm for multiplicative noise removal. Numerical results show that the new algorithm with fixed parameters has low computational cost. The adaptive algorithms can not only remove the noise and eliminate the staircase effect in the non-textured region, but also preserve the textures well in the textured region, and therefore can improve the result visually efficiently.

Abstract:Based on ordinary Hough transform, we propose an improved method by using Histogram and setting Region of interest (ROI), to do the quick Hough transform for tracking lane line. The dynamic adaptive threshold method can be suitable with different lighting conditions and quickly remove most of the information not relative to lane line. Setting ROI can let the program only care about the specific region which can provide useful information and decrease the processing data. And then briefly describe the innovative strategy about how to track the straight and curve line with the logic of monocular vision and the switch logic between them. The experiment shows, the improved solution greatly raises the efficiency.
