Abstract:A miniature fiber-optic temperature sensor which can measure high temperature in a small volume is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The sensor head is fabricated by splicing a small segment of photonic crystal fiber (PCF) to the single mode fiber (SMF), forming a fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer (FFPI). A high-speed signal processing method is adopted to measure the temperature by detecting the intensity of the reflected light. A high temperature of up to 500 C can be measured by using the propose technique.

Abstract:In this paper, a Brillouin-erbium fiber laser (BEFL) is demonstrated to obtain multiple channels with both single and double Brillouin-frequency spacing. The BEFL consists of a dual-cavity which is constructed by a 3 port circulator and a 50/50 coupler. The dual-cavity shares a single mode fiber (SMF) approximately 1 km in length and an EDFA to produce interdependent bi-directional Stokes signals. A tunable laser and a 980-nm laser diode are used as the Brillouin pump and the EDF pump respectively. The impact of EDF pump power, Brillouin pump wavelength and power on the tuning range and number of Stokes generated are investigated. The dual-cavity BEFL can operate at most 10 channels with double Brillouin-frequency spacing or 20 channels with single Brillouin-frequency spacing.
