Abstract:The ability to forward traffic on multiple paths would be useful for customizing paths for different applications, improving reliability and balancing load. In order to evaluate the behaviour and performance of multipath routing protocols both simulators and test bed are often used. The simulator is used in the first stages and the test bed is used in the final stages of the development process. However, when moving from simulation to test bed, source code usually needs to be re-implemented. In this paper, we present MRS to address these issues. It was constructed by embedding the Click Modular Router inside of the NS2 simulator. The source code with MRS may run on an actual system as well as under a simulator with minor modifications. We implement a multipath routing protocol called AMIR in MRS. Simulation results show that MRS is a useful and effective tool for evaluating multipath routing protocols. The results also indicate that multipath routing has a greater advantage in improving network performance than single-path routing.

Abstract:Performance heterogeneous multicore processors (HMP for short), whichconsist of multiple cores with the same instruction set but different performance characteristics (e.g., clock speed, issue width), are of great concern for their ability to deliver higher performance per watt and area for programs with diverse architectural requirements than comparable homogeneous ones. However, such power and area efficiencies of performance heterogeneous multicore systems can only be achieved when workloads are emph{matched} with cores according to the properties of the workload and features of the core.In this paper, we propose a new metric, ASTPI (Average Stall Time per Instruction), to measure the efficiencies of threads in using fast cores. We design, implement and evaluate a new online monitoring approach called ESHMP, which is based on the metric. Our evaluation in the Linux 2.6.21 operating system shows that ESHMP delivers scalability while adapting to a wide variety of applications. Also, our experiment results show that among HMP systems in which heterogeneity-aware schedulers are adopted and there are more than one LLC (Last Level Cache), the architectures where heterogeneous cores share LLCs gain better performance than the ones where homogeneous cores share LLCs.

Abstract:Automatic age estimation from face has received increasing attention due to its wide range of application. A successful age estimator typically consists of two key modules: age-related feature extraction and age estimation by regression or classification. In this paper we propose a novel age estimator method based on sparse representation. In the feature exaction stage, the mid-level Spatial-Pyramid face representation based on Sparse codes of SIFT features (ScSPM) is used to characterize the age-related variance. For age estimation, linear sparse regression models are learned which can not only select the most discriminative features but also perform the age estimation. The hierarchical strategy, which first coarsely classifies the faces into age groups and then finely estimates the detailed age by the linear regression model of this group, is adopted to deal with the non-linearity attribute of aging to improve the performance of the age regression model. To our best knowledge, it is the first time to apply ScSPM and sparse linear regression to age estimation. The experimental results show that the proposed approach outperforms the state-of-the-art on the FG-NET database and achieves competitive performance on the MORPH database.

Abstract:With the popularity of GPS, Location-Based Service has been developed widely and applied in many fields such as location query service、point of interest search service、self-funded travel service and so on. To differentiate many similar locations, sentence similarity is introduced which is a very important research topic in the field of NLP, and has been widely used in the fields such as text classification, information processing and so on. In recent years, a great many methods have been proposed to measure the similarity of sentences, but these methods for computing sentence similarity have almost derived from approaches used for long text documents, they are not suitable for some applications. So this paper mainly focuses on very short sentence similarity computation, especially the similarity between Chinese and English addresses. In the process of computation, the sentence similarity is calculated with the information of both structure and semantic information. Experiments on the similarity calculation show that this proposed method has higher accuracy.

Abstract:With the development of the 3G network and Electronic Commerce, more and more people prefer to shop online, especially via the Cell phone equipped with camera. In order to meet the requirements of the consumers to easily retrieve similar commodity images, we propose a Mobile Image-to-Search system. In this system a content-based retrieval algorithm combining color and shape features for electronic commerce has been investigated, which uses the Normalized Fourier Descriptor and a fuzzy-linking method of color histogram based on the HSV color space. In order to reduce the interference of background, we also use the method of improved canny descriptor before extracting the shape features and the approach of ROI (region of interest) weighted in the color histogram. The system has been tested on Corel data set and our own commodity library, a large number of images selected from Taobao, one of the largest Electronic Commerce web in China. The experimental results indicate that our method has a better retrieval performance.

Abstract:In this paper, we issue the new problem of alternative stream clustering, which aims to find two high quality and dissimilar macro-clusterings in a given data stream. To tackle this new task, we propose a new algorithm named AltStream consisting of two components. The online component of AltStream simultaneously maintains two alternative groups of micro-clusters which are used to record the statistical information about the evolving stream. These micro-clusters are periodically stored as snapshots by following the pyramidal time frame. When the users request to find two alternative macro-clusterings, the offline component is then invoked. After the two sets of micro-clusters are returned with respect to the specified time horizon and the number of clusters, an unsupervised alternative clustering algorithm, namely dec-kmeans, is then employed in the offline component to find two alternative macro-clusterings over one set of micro-clusters. Within the two macro-clusterings, the one with better quality is outputted as the first resulting macro-clustering, whereas the centroids of the other macro-clustering are extracted as the semi-supervised information. Under the guideline of these centroids, the second resulting macro-clustering is created by a weighted k-means algorithm. In such a way, the two resulting macro-clusterings may contain distinct centroids as well as non-overlapped data points. Experimental results on both real-world and synthetic streams illustrate that our new algorithm performs better than some comparative methods, in terms of both quality and dissimilarity.

Abstract:In order to perform successful diagnosis and treatment of cancer, discovering and classifying cancer types correctly is essential. Most of the existing worksadopt single clustering algorithms to perform class discovery frombio-molecular data. Unfortunately, single clustering algorithms havelimitations, which are lack of the robustness, stableness andaccuracy. In this paper, we develop a new probabilistic subspaceensemble framework known as PSEFminer for cancer microarray dataanalysis. PSEFminer integrates the probabilistic subspace generator, the self-organizing map(SOM) and the normalized cut algorithm intothe ensemble framework to discover the underlying structure fromcancer microarray data. The experiments in cancer datasets show that($i$) the probabilistic subspace generator plays an important roleto improve the performance of PSEFminer; ($ii$) PSEFmineroutperforms most of the state-of-the-art cluster ensemble algorithmswhen applied to cancer gene expression data.

Abstract:Content distribution network (CDN) is a system designed to reduce the bandwidth costs, increase global availability of content and improve end user performance. The famous internet search company Google has established his own CDN to transmit most of his traffic over the internet. In this paper we conduct extensive measurement of Google CDN. The purpose of our measurement is to locate Google data centers in the worldwide and further evaluate and analyze the delay performance of Google CDN. Based our measurement, we firstly try to find out all the content servers of Google CDN and present a novel approach to cluster these content servers into several data centers. Then we evaluate the delay performance from four different service type of Google CDN and give some observations of Google CDN's response strategy to the client's request.
