Show/Hide Abstract | Cite this paper︱Full-text: PDF (0 B)
Abstract:The mathematical model of adaptive dispersals for mutant individualsis proposed to simulate the phenomenon that biological individuals migrate to responseto habitat quality. Using the regular and singular perturbation techniques, we findstrategies by which mutant individuals win or lose the competition with resident individuals through evolutionary migrations. The conditions for the coexistence of mutantindividuals and resident individuals are also established on the basis of persistence theory.

Abstract:Motivated by the celebrated extending applications of the conjugateresidual method to nonsymmetric linear systems by Sogabe, Sugiharaand Zhang [An extension of the conjugate residual method tononsymmetric linear systems [J]. J. Comput. Appl. Math., 266:103-113, 2009],this paper describes two conjugate directionmethods, Bi-CR and Bi-CG, and attempts to extend their applicationsto compute the stationary probability distribution for anirreducible Markov chain. Numerical experiments show the feasibilityof the Bi-CR and Bi-CG methods to some extent, with applications toseveral practical Markov chain problems.

Abstract:In this paper , we proposed a machine learning method based on the Na?ve Bayes classifier for predicting piRNA. First, piRNA and non-piRNA sequences of five model species: human, rat, mouse, fruit fly and nematode are served as training set. Then, sequence features, including k-mer frequencies, standardized word frequencies under a K-2 order Markov Model and different functions of four nucleotides are extracted from each sequence. Finally, the integrated features were fed into the Na?ve Bayes classifier to perform the prediction, where conditional probability of a word in each class was estimated by a histogram technique. Our machine learning approach achieved the overall accuracy of 82% by 5-fold cross validation. Due to the conciseness of the probability model, Na?ve Bayes classifier can be trained and predicted very fast and was efficient in large datasets.

Abstract:We investigate akinetic model for the sedimentation of colloidalrods, deduced by Helzel, Otto andTzavaras (2011), which couples the impressible (Navier-)Stokesequation with the Fokker-Planck equation. With no-flux boundarycondition for distribution function, we establish the existence anduniqueness of global weak solution to the two dimensional modelinvolving Stokes equation.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the constrained viscosity solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation arising from the valuation of a block of perpetual American employee stock options (ESOs). The exercise process of the employee is described by a fluid model with a capped exercise rate. The value of the ESOs defined as the maximal expectation of the discounted exercise benefits satisfies the HJB equation. The existence and uniqueness of the constrained viscosity solution is obtained after the proof of the associated comparison principal. The limit case with the cap value approaching infinity is also studied followed by a numerical simulation model. The corresponding optimal exercise decision is determined by the value function of this optimization problem.

Mathematics 06 January 2013
Show/Hide Abstract | Cite this paper︱Full-text: PDF (0 B)
Abstract:This paper is concerned with a nonlocal parabolicvariational inequality which arises from the financial valuation of defined benefits retirement pension plan that allows early retirement. The paid benefits on retirement dependon the salary at that time. The underlying salary is assumed to follow a jump-diffusion process. We characterize the financial value of the retirementbenefits as the solution of anoptimal stopping time problem, which corresponds to a variationalinequality or a free boundary problem of an integro-differentialoperator of the parabolic type. The existence and uniqueness of the solutionto the variational inequality are proved and the properties for related free boundary are discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, thestabilizability of a system with control delay will be discussed. Firstlya transformation is given, by which the discussed system with control delay is transformed to the system without control delay. Therelationship of stabilizability of these two kind system is given. Thenthe problem of output feedback stabilizability of thesystem without control delay is discussed and the conditions for thestabilizability of the system with control delay are given.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the complete controllability of a fractional linear time-invariant differential system with Riemann-Liouville derivative. The solution of the state equation with classical initial value is first derived. Then two criteria on controllability for the system, which are sufficient and necessary, are established. Two examples illustrate the results.
