Abstract:We report a new way to enhance the photoluminescence of porous silicon(PS) in red light(625 nm) under room temperature by doping the rare earth(Yb) in porous silicon with distributed Bragg reflection (DBR) structures. It is observed that a suitable concentration of Yb3+ ions could enhance the photoluminescence of porous silicon effectively. Compared with the single-layer porous silicon film, the enhancement of Yb-doped PS photoluminescence from porous silicon DBR structures is higher. RE doping and DBR structures could double strengthen PS photoluminescence.

Abstract:Surface enhanced coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (SECARS) is a sensitive tool and promising for single molecular detection and chemical selective imaging. However, the usually experimentally observed enhancement factors (EF) were only 10~100, many orders of magnitudes lower than predicted. In this paper, we present a design of SECARS substrate consisting of three asymmetric gold disks and strategies for maximizing the EF by engineering the near-field properties of the plasmonic Fano nanoassembly. It is found that the "hot spots" corresponding to different frequencies involved in the SECARS process can be brought to the same spatial locations by tuning incident orientations, giving rise to highly confined SECARS "hot spots" with the EF reaching a sensitivity of single-molecule detection. These findings put an important step forward to the plasmonic substrate design for SECARS as well as for other nonlinear optical processes.

Abstract:We proposed a facile green synthesis system to synthesize large-scale Ag hemi-mesoparticles monolayer on Cu foil. Ag mesoparticles have different surface morphology on their surfaces, including ridge-like shapes, meatball-like, and fluffy-likeshapes. In the reaction, silver nitrate was reduced by copper at room temperature in dimethyl sulfoxide via the galvanic displacement reaction. The different surface morphology of the Ag mesoparticles was adjusted by changing the reaction time.In the growth system, the mesoparticle surface formed fluffy-spherical nanoprotrusions at longer reaction time. At the same time, we explored the growth mechanism of silver mesoparticles with different surface morphology. SERS measurements demonstrate that these Ag mesoparticles can serve as sensitive SERS substrates. At the same time, using finite element method, the distribution of the localized electromagnetic field near the particle surface was simulated to verify the enhanced mechanism. This study helps us to understand the relationship between morphology Ag mesoparicles and the properties of SERS.

Abstract:Recent advances in the field of compressive sensing indicate that it is possible to robustly reconstruct super-resolution images from judicious compressive samplings. However, the design of simple and effective random optical sensing architecture is still a huge challenge. In this paper we propose a novel model to achieve compressive imaging super-resolution based on an optical realization of scrambled block Hadamard ensemble sensing operation. We further demonstrate that the proposed model can achieve a 4-times higher spatial resolution imaging with little number of measurements in a single-shot acquisition process.

Abstract:An algorithm is proposed for fast reconstruction of off-axis digital holograms based on the combination of complex encoding (CE) and digital spatial multiplexing (SM). In this algorithm, every two of eight off-axis holograms recorded in sequence are assembled into one complex hologram, then the four complex holograms are synthesized into one SM hologram through multiplying each complex hologram by a tilted plane wave and then adding them up, thus we get a so-called complex spatial multiplexing hologram (CSMH) containing all the information of eight recorded holograms. Through this method, eight 2D Fourier transforms (FTs) can be simplified to one 2D FT in the process of digital holographic reconstruction, which can largely improve the computational efficiency with the resolution of the reconstructed images nearly unchanged.

Abstract:The construction of generalized Fibonacci zone plates (GFiZPs) is proposed. This allows us to engineer the focusing properties with additional freedom compared to Fibonacci zone plates (FiZPs) and Cantor-type fractal zone plates (FraZPs). In comparison with FraZPs, GFiZPs are constructed with inflation rule instead of extraction rule, thus avoiding sparse structures at high recursion orders. Similar to FraZPs, numerical simulations show that GFiZPs possess both multi-foci and self-similarity properties. Furthermore, axial irradiance of GFiZPs generated from different structural parameters was investigated in detai.

Abstract:We have investigated theoretically the plasmon resonance coupling in compositional heterogenous Al-Au nanorod dimers organized in a close proximity by end-to-end. It has been proved that the destructive interference between the bright dipole mode from Al nanorod and the dark quadrupole mode from Au nanorod nearby results in the appearance of apparent Fano resonance in the extinction spectra. The Fano resonance response on the structural dimension modifications in the proposed nanorod dimers have been estimated and determined. The Al-Au heterogeneous nanorod dimer shows a high sensitivity to the surrounding environment with a local surface plasmon resonance figure of merit of 7.6, which enables its promising applications in plasmonic sensing and detection.

Abstract:The realization of all-optical switch in low-photon-number regime is a meaningful goal in quantum optics. We proposed a scheme based on quantum dot-bimodal cavity coupling system. The optical switch effect is theoretically demonstrated when applying two modal coherent driving lasers in a bimodal cavity containing single quantum dot. One mode laser controls the resonator transmission of the other mode laser with high on-off ratio. Our work may enable various applications of all-optical calculation, optical computer or quantum information processing.

Abstract:We apply the lower bound of entanglement (LBOE) to investigation of entanglement transfer of two qubits interacting independently with their corresponding thermal squeezed reservoirs. Numerical results have shown that under the thermal and squeezed environment, entanglement sudden death (ESD) of the qubits will surely occur, but without entanglement sudden birth (ESB) of the reservoirs. We also show that, compared to the vacuum reservoir case, ESD regarding the qubits occurs earlier under thermal or squeezed damping channel, and the corresponding entanglement transfer from qubit to reservoir is more complicated.

Abstract:Organic solar cells (OSCs) have many potential advantages such as easy fabrication, low cost, light weight, good flexibility, etc. However, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of OSCs is lower than their inorganic counterparts because the thickness of the active layer is limited due to the contradiction between the electrical and optical properties. Aiming for boosting the absorption under the existing thickness of the active layer, researchers have introduced diverse light trapping elements into OSCs, e.g., metallic nanoparticles (MNPs), as they can excite localized surface plasmon resonance. Recently, there have been a series of experimental studies dedicated to understanding the influences of MNPs on the performance of OSCs. In this work, we have successfully synthesized lipophilic Au Nanorods (NRods) by surface modifying the aqueous Au NRods using NH2-PEG-SH and then dope the lipophilic Au NRods directly into the active layer of OSCs. By this way, we have improved the PCE of OSC devices from 5.9% to 6.5%, corresponding to almost 10% improvement. The significant increase in PCE comes from the increase in the short circuit current, agreeing well with the broadband enhancement in the spectra of external quantum efficiency. Besides, the film with PEG-coated Au NRods has greater optical absorption relative to the control film, reflecting that the incorporation of the MNPs helps harnessing more incident light and thus improving PCE.
