Abstract:Collision avoidance as an essential use case for vehicular networks can effectively enhance the safety of vehicles. This paper addresses how to avoid collision between vehicles and vulnerable road users(VRU), i.e., pedestrians, cyclists or motorists equipped with smartphones. Due to the limited computation resource and processing capability of smartphones, mobile edge computing (MEC) is introduced. MEC is utilized to reduce the transmission delay and relieve the network congestion, by pushing computation resource and processing capability to network edge. In particular, this paper focuses on a collision avoidance scenario including an edge collision detector, multiple vehicles and VRUs. In addition, we propose a minimum bandwidth occupation algorithm for collision warning. By calculating the consumed bandwidth of two different candidate alerting methods, we are able to decide the most efficient way, which occupates minimum bandwidth, to avoid the colliison.

Abstract:Using wireless signals to implement new type of human-computer interaction is a hot topic in recent years. In this paper, we try to use the received signal strength indicators (RSSI) of multi-channel Wi-Fi frames to achieve fine-grained handwriting recognition. A New method of Handwriting Detection Algorithm whose average precision rate and recall rate of handwriting detection have been respectively achieved to 91.77% and 97.19% is proposed. We also designed a new kind of weighted k-nearest neighbors algorithm (WKNN) which is improved by multi-dimensional dynamic time warping (MD-DTW). It can achieve an average accuracy of 91% in the classification of 26 letters in experimental environment.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a bidirectional two-way relaying selection network consisting of a source, a destination and multiply half-duplex decode-and-forward (DF) relays. Firstly, we consider three time slots transmission model. In the first slot, selected relay applies time-switching protocol to harvest radio frequency energy radiated by source and destination; in the remaining slots, selected relay cooperates source and destination for information exchange. Secondly, due to finite-size data buffer and finite-size battery of relay, we propose optimal relay selection and power allocation policy, under the delay-tolerant and delay-constraint constraints. Without considering the link outage, users can adaptively adjust transmission rate to maximize system sum-throughput. In addition, we analyze the effect of transmission time on sum-throughput. However, our sum-throughput optimization problem is a non-convex problem. Further, we relax relay selection coefficient and use Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions. The optimal power is obtained by Lagrange dual decomposition. Simulations can prove that sum-throughput of our proposed strategy is affected by buffer size and battery capacity, as well as time allocation of each transmission phase.

Abstract:We investigate the problem of cross-tier interference control in full-duplex (FD) Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) based heterogeneous networks (HetNets) consisting of macrocell and underlaying femtocells. A price mechanism is introduced where the macro base station (MBS) and femtocell base stations (FBSs) all aim to maximize their own utility function considering finite interference constraint. We propose a triple optimization strategy of power control, subcarrier allocation and price regulation which can solve the cross-tier interference optimization problem of femtocell to macrocell. We analyze the superiority of the barrier method for the utility function of the macrocell, and to a certain extent, it has a better convergence. Through the experiment, we can see that the proposed the triple resource allocation algorithm can effectively suppress cross-tier interference and maximize the utility of macrocell and femtocells.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the vertical sectorization in a downlink cellular network and optimize the identify threshold of vertical sectorization and antenna downtilt of each vertical sector. Firstly, we use gamma distribution to approximate the achievable sum-rates of the cellular networks with vertical sectorization. Then, according to the approximation, we formulate an optimization problem to maximize system throughput and achieve the optimization solution through a simple algorithm. The simulation results show that the system sum-rates can be improved by optimizing the number of vertical sectors, the threshold of vertical sectorization, and the antenna downtilt.

Abstract:Universal Filtered Multi-Carrier (UFMC), which is an emerging 5G waveform candidate, has gained wide attention in recent years. The properties of UFMC is very close to OFDM, while the former has better spectrum properties than the latter. UFMC is more suitable for short-burst communication systems than other 5G waveform candidates, for example, Filter-Bank Multi-Carrier (FBMC). However, the complexity of conventional UFMC transmitter is much higher than OFDM. To solve this problem, this paper firstly present a low complexity transmitter structure based on the combination of small-size IFFT and time-domain interpolation. On the basis of this, a new Polyphase Network (PPN) based UFMC transmitter with much lower computational complexity is proposed. Our PPN based approach eventually brings the complexity of UFMC transmitter down to the same level as OFDM, and makes the complexity of UFMC transmitter even lower than OFDM in some special conditions. This PPN based low complexity implementation makes UFMC more suitable for the devices with low computing power.

Abstract:In this paper, a new positioning method is proposed. Radio Frequency Pattern Matching (RFPM), also known as fingerprinting, is a positioning method proposed in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) RAN4 meetings for UE positioning. The localization accuracy of RFPM is highly related with the number of measurement elements for pattern matching. Using inter-RAT measurements not only adds additional measurements but also introduces the measurements from different radio access technologies (RAT). As these RATs may have a significantly different interference environment than that of the Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, the positioning geometry can be improved. In this paper, the inter-RAT elements are adopted to improve the positioning accuracy of RFPM, and the Cramer-Rao lower bound is deduced to evaluate the accuracy. By combining inter-RAT measurements with the existed RFPM method, the simulation results revealed an improved accuracy of the proposed method by more than 30% compared to only using one RAT measurements. The results are promising and show a great potential to improve the RFPM positioning performance with the help of additional inter-RAT measurements.

Abstract:In cognitive radio networks, spectrum sensing is a key technology that enables cognitive radio (CR) users to opportunistically access the spectrum resources of the primary networks. To reduce the interference and enhance the throughput of the CR networks, a joint optimal sensing and transmission time scheme is proposed and analyzed based on modeling the interference. A more accurate interference model is analyzed through renewal theory. Theoretical and simulation results show that the proposed allocation scheme has higher data throughput with the constraint interference.

Abstract:Conventional ray tracing (RT) techniques face an obvious shortage of slow performance. Several acceleration methods have been proposed to address this problem and the tetrahedron meshed ray tracing (TMRT) method is verified superior to others in specific scenarios. In the TMRT method, Tetrahedralization is first required to preprocess the original scenario to trace rays through it. In this paper, we propose a TMRT method based on constrained Delaunay tetrahedralization. Compared with other RT method, the voxel method, we will see a marked acceleration effect of TMRT. We will also compare the CDT method with other tetrahedralization method to illustrate the impact of tetrahedralization on the TMRT acceleration effect in different scenarios.

Abstract:In recent years, the design of millimeter-wave wireless communication system has become a hotspot of academic and industrial research, for its broad and license-free spectrum. As the most of 60GHz wireless local area networking (WLAN) systems are deployed in the indoor environment, we investigate the coverage performance of the 60GHz WLAN system in a typical outdoor environment, and evaluate the feasibility of outdoor deployment of 60GHz system in this paper. First, an outdoor 60GHz WLAN system model based on IEEE 802.11ad is proposed. Then, the channel characteristics and antenna array gain at 60GHz are discussed and some comparisons are made with 2GHz. Furthermore, a typical crossroad scenario is simulated by a 3-dimensional ray tracing simulator in both 60GHz and 2GHz. The results of simulation show that, with the help of beamforming, the poor link budget of 60GHz system can be much enhanced. Finally, some conclusions of the 60GHz outdoor wireless system are given.
