Abstract:Deposition, diffusion and aggregation (DDA) on a two-dimensional small-world network has been investigated by computer simulations. This model is characterized by two parameters: the clustering exponent $\alpha$ and long-range connection rate $\phi$. The results show that as $\alpha$ and $\phi$ vary there exists a continuous crossover in the fractal dimension $D_f$ from 1.65 to 2, which corresponds to the crossover from the DDA pattern to dense one. The change of the aggregation pattern results from the long-range connection in the network, which reduces the effect of screening during the aggregation. With primitive analysis, we obtain the expressions of the fractal dimension $D_f$ and the crossover point $\alpha_c$. The maximum value of $\alpha_c$ is 4. These results may be useful to describe the vapor deposition, molecular-beam epitaxy, and similar experiments on defective substrates.

Abstract:A ring $R$ is called a left semi-V-ring in case every simple left $R$-module has a nonzero injective cover. $R$ is a left Artinian left semi-V-ring if and only if every nonzero left $R$-module has a nonzero injective cover.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the distributional properties of a median unbiased estimator of ARCH(0,1) coefficient. The exact distribution of the estimator can be easily derived, however its practical calculations are too heavy to implement, even though the middle range of sample sizes. Since the estimator is shown to have asymptotic normality, asymptotic expansions for the distribution and the percentiles of the estimator are derived as the refinements. Accuracies of expansion formulas are evaluated numerically, and the results of which show that we can effectively use the expansion as a fine approximation of the distribution with rapid calculations. Derived expansion are applied to testing hypothesis of stationarity, and an implementation for a real data set is illustrated.

Abstract:A Maple package MiniIB is described, which is an implementation of the algorithm presented by Gerdt for the construction of minimal involutive bases for linear differential ideals. As a straightforward application, the minimal involutive bases of the determining system of classical Lie symmetry for some partial differential equation(s) are computed with package MiniIB.

Abstract:The average value of g factor (i.e., ) of Cr4+ ions in forsterite (Mg2SiO4) is calculated with the cubic symmetry approximation from the complete high-order perturbation formula of g factor for 3d2 ion in cubic tetrahedral cluster. In the formula, the contribution to g factor from the charge-transfer mechanism (which is neglected in the crystal-field theory) is considered in addition to that from the widely used crystal-field mechanism. From the calculations, the reasonable observed value of is suggested (note: the experimental values of by various authors are scattered) and the important contribution of charge-transfer mechanism to g factor can be found.

Abstract:The wear characteristics of PA1010, PEEK, TX and NSM with laser cladded layer (LCL) and spasm-sprayed engineering ceramic surface (SSC) respectively under water surroundings are tested. It is found that the wear of PEEK is the least when matched with both of the materials, next is TX, whereas the wear features of PA1010 and NSM vary with the matching materials. The former’s wear increases drastically with SSC, the latter wears more with LCL. Further analysis shows that the wear mechanism of engineering plastics with LCL is mainly mechanical cutting, while with SSC is plastic transfer.

Abstract:Water is environmentally friendly, nonflammable, inexpensive, clean, readily available, and easily disposable. As concerns for environmental compatibility, safety and hygienic requirements, hydraulic systems using natural water as pressure medium become more and more attractive. To meet the demand for this new technology, a R & D program for water hydraulics has been carried out at HUST. In this paper, the advantages of water hydraulics are discussed and the special design challenges for development of water hydraulics, such as low viscosity and poor tribological behaviour, corrosion and other material changes in water, cavitation, microorganisms’ growth and contamination control are analyzed in detail based on the authors’ research. Besides, some experimental researches on the cavitation and flow characteristics of water hydraulic throttles are introduced. At last, some of the developed seawater hydraulic components with pressure 14 MPa are presented.

Abstract:The complete third-order perturbation formulas of g factors g// and g^ for 3d2 ions in tetragonal MX4 clusters have been established from a cluster approach. In these formulas, in addition to the contributions to g factors from the crystal-field mechanism in the crystal-field theory, the contributions from the charge-transfer mechanism are included. From these formulas, the g factors g// and g^ for Cr4+ ion in Bi4Ge3O12 crystal are calculated. The results are in agreement with the observed values. The calculated Dgi (i=// or ^) due to the charge-transfer mechanism is opposite in sign and about 20% in magnitude, compared with that due to the crystal-field mechanism. So, for the 3dn ions having high valence state in crystals, the reasonable explanations of g factors should take both the crystal-field and charge-transfer mechanisms into account.

Abstract:The overbroken rock mass of gob area is made up of broken and accumulated rock blocks compressed to some extent by the above strata. The bearing pressure of gob can directly affect the safety of mining field, formation of road retained along next goaf, and seepage of air and methane of gob. In this paper, the software RFPA’2000 is used to construct numerical models, and especially the Euler method of control volume is put forward to solve the simulation difficulty come from plastically finite deformation. The results show that three characteristic regions occurred in gob area: (1) Naturally accumulated region, 0~10m far from unbroken surrounding rock walls, the bearing pressure nearly being zero; (2) Overcompacted region, 10~20m far from unbroken walls, the bearing pressure resulting in the maximum value; (3) Stable compaction region, more than 20m far from unbroken walls and occupying absolute majority of gob area, the bearing pressures basically having no difference there.
