Abstract:We propose two protocols for generating Bell-type entangled coherent states (ECSs). One uses a single photon; the other one uses an entangled photon pair. In contrast to previous works, the protocols are completed merely using linear optical elements, single-photon detectors, and the cross-Kerr nonlinearity, where the decoherence effect of the cross-Kerrnonlinearity is imposed onto the generation process.Considering the difficulty in generating a coherent super-positioned state with large amplitude, the input state is taken as the coherent state. The fidelity of the generated ECSs in the presence of decoherence of weak nonlinearity is numerical studied.Photon loss is found to affect only the probability, and not the fidelity, of the generation process. The protocol is also proved to be easily applicable for the generation of multi-modeGHZ-type ECSs.

Abstract:Nonlinear shift of the absorption edge in HgCdTe was observed in our previous works, where the reason has been tentatively ascribed to the existence of impurity levels. Here, we represent the calculation results of the temperature dependence of the Fermi level in doped-HgCdTe as a function of compositions ( value), doping levels, and ionization (activation) energies of impurity levels. The special temperature points on the Fermi level have been determined, which confirms the experimental observation. This result can also be used to interpret the difference between the absorption and photoluminescence spectra in narrow-gap semiconductors like HgCdTe.

Abstract:We present a numerical investigation of the pump to signal relative intensity noise (RIN) transfer characteristics both in the single-pump and dual-pump parametric amplifier inside silicon waveguides in the presence of nonlinear losses. Moreover, the influences of the related parameters in SOPA on the gain and the pump-to-signal RIN transfer characteristics are also discussed. As a result, appropriate free-carrier lifetime and high-power pump sources with low RIN value are required for a low-noise SOPA.

Abstract:The differential cross sections for reactions 8He(p, d)7He g.s and 8He(p, t)6He2+ were measured by the coincidence of d+ 6He and t+ 4He in a wide angular range from 15 to 130 degree in the center-of-mass system. The cross sections of the 8He(p, t)6He g.s reaction were extremely lower than that of 8He(p, t)6He2+ reaction, and was not obtained from the present data. The experimental results were compared to the preliminary theoretical calculations in the frame of adiabatic distorted-wave approximation with the code Fresco. The results show that the configuration of (1p3/2)2(1p1/2)2 may have some probability in the ground state wave function of 8He. The cluster structure of 8He = 5H + 3H could not be neglected.

Abstract:Nanostructured Bi(Pb)-Sr-Co-O thin films have been achieved by chemical solution deposition technique. X-ray diffraction measurement reveals that the films are highly c-axis oriented and scanning electron microscope as well as atomic force microscopy show that the average grain size in the films is about 80 nm. The resistivity and seebeck coefficient of the films at 980 K are about 6 mohm cm and 196 μV/K, resulting in a much higher power factor of 0.6 mW/mK2 than that of the polycrystalline bulks. Since the size of the nanoparticles is essential in reducing the thermal conductivity, great improvements in the figure of merit can be expected for the nanostructured Bi(Pb)-Sr-Co-O thin films.

Abstract:In this paper, we design isolated molecular nanowires composed of thiophene oligomers sandwiched between two one-dimensional gold electrodes. Electronic transport through the molecular junctions with two interface geometries is studied by performing the first principles calculations based on density functional theory and nonequilibrium Green's function. The current-voltage (I-V) curves of the molecular wires display the unexpected negative differential resistance and rectifying behaviors along with the oscillation effects, different from the steplike features of the I-V curve in other theoretical and experimental studies about the analogous thiophene devices. The significant difference is attributed to the design of the one-dimensional gold electrodes with large enough vacuum layer in transverse direction in order to suppress the interaction between transport systems and its mirror images. Such transport behaviors indicates that the thiophene molecular device would be an important candidate in future molecular electronics.

Abstract:A cell dynamics simulation is performed for diblock-diblock copolymers mixture confined between parallel walls. Much richer morphologies are observed in the mixture than in pure diblock copolymer. Multiple novel morphological transitions occur by changing the wall-block interaction and the distance between walls (confinement degree), and both perpendicular and parallel multilayered sandwich structures are obtained in the mixture.

Abstract:The reflection of X-band microwaves (8-12 GHz) from a metallic aluminum (Al) surface with groove grating corrugations was investigated experimentally. It was shown that the reflection of p-polarization is much less than the microwave reflected from the corresponding area of an unruled Al surface, with selective wavelength. The experimental results demonstrated that the anomalous microwave reflection is strongly associated with the excitation of spoof surface plasmons at the Al-air interface by the surface grating coupler. This near-total absence of reflected microwaves is similar to the famous Wood's anomaly in the optical regime and is of fundamental importance to the applications of spoof surface plasmons in the microwave regime.

Abstract:When topological order is realized in a certain class of superconductors,Majorana fermions can be supported on the edge or in the vortex coreresting with the time-reversal symmetry, which play an important role for the realization offault-tolerant topological quantum computation. In this work, we proposea scheme to distinguish topological superconducting from normal superconductingstates by measuring the number of impurity-induced in-gap bound states. It is shown that there are always four in-gap bound states in topologicalsuperconducting states induced by magnetic impurities, and two by nonmagnetic impurities, irrelevant of the impurity strength. However, onlytwo in-gap bound states are induced in normal superconductingstates when impurity strength is weak. Our results help withthe search of topological order in superconductors without resorting tothe surface modes.

Abstract:The granular-type FePt-MgO films with the stack structure of [MgO 3nm/FePt 2nm]2/MgO 4nm/SiO2 4nm/[Fe-Ta-C/Ta]m=0-2/Fe-Ta-C/Glass disks were fabricated for perpendicular magnetic recording media applications. The total thickness of the soft under layer (SUL) is kept constant of 200 nm. The coercivity of the laminated type SUL is very low (<1 Oe), probably due to the magnetostatic interaction between adjacent nanocrystalline layers and expected to decrease the noise from SUL. The perpendicular coercivity, magnetic activation volume, and the exchange coupling between the recording layer of the disks with single SUL and laminated type SUL were systematically studied and compared. The disks with two-laminated SUL have a smaller exchange coupling, activation volume, squareness and higher Ku value compared with the disks with single and three-laminated SUL.
