Abstract:A prominent application of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is pulse sequence compression for obtaining high power and high intensity optical pulse. The characteristics and the stability of the compressed Stokes pulse were investigated using compact two-cell SBS phase-conjugation mirror. FC-770, having low absorption and high breakdown threshold at the wavelength of 1064nm, was used as the SBS medium. Both the Stokes pulse width and the reflectivity were measured as a function of incident pump energy. In our work, a 8 ns laser pulse of 1064 nm generated by Q-switched Nd: YAG was optimally compressed to 116 ps for pump energies of 310 mJ, while the energy reflectivity is above 85%. The shortest pulses width obtained exhibit 99 ps duration. The stability of the temporal pulse widths after compression was investigated statistically. For non-optimal pump energies pulse widths become larger and the stability is found to decrease.

Abstract:Based on the Fresnel diffraction integral, the analytical expression for the propagation of off-axis vortex beams with topological charge ±1 through a single slit diffraction is derived, which is used to study the propagation of central phase singularity of off-axis vortex beams diffracted by a single slit in detail. The effect of propagation distance, the half-width of a single slit, off-axis parameter on position of central phase singularity in the diffracted field is illustrated by numerical examples. The results show that the off-axis vortex beam passing through a single slit diffraction, the spatial distribution of phase singularities depends on propagation distance, the half-width of a single slit and off-axis parameter. The results obtained in this paper would be useful for a deep understanding of the propagation of off-axis phase singularity in the diffracted field.

Abstract:The evolution of hydrogenated amorphous carbon films with fullerene-like microstructure was investigated with the proportion of hydrogen in introduction. The results showed that the films deposited at hydrogen flow rate 50sccm exhibited lower compressive stress (lower 48.6%), higher elastic recovery (higher 19.6%, near elastic recovery rate 90%) and higher hardness (higher 7.4%) than the films deposited without hydrogen introduction. Structural analysis showed the film had relatively high sp2 content and low bonded hydrogen content possessed high hardness, elastic recovery rate and low compressive stress. It was attributed to the curved graphite microstructure, which can form three-dimensional covalently bonded network.

Abstract:Indium tin Oxide (ITO) thin film is hard to be etched in wet etchants because of the crystalline state. To obtain easily-etched transparent conductor oxide (TCO), a layer of ultra-thin indium-zinc oxide (IZO) was inserted between ITO films. It was found that the as-deposition TCO film with IZO insertion layers was amorphous and easily-etched by oxalic. Furthermore, the surface roughness of this multilayer TCO film was only 0.52 nm, much lower than that of the ITO monolayer film with the same thickness. After annealing at 250 degree in air, a low sheet resistance of ~10 Ω/□ and a reasonably transmittance of ~85% in visible range film were obtained.

Abstract:ZnO nanowires Metal-Semiconductor-Metal (MSM) photodetector with platinum (Pt) contact electrodes was fabricated and its optoelectronic properties were examined. The ZnO nanowires used in the experiment were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition method. The electrical performance and photoelectric response performance were studied, and the results showed that the Pt/ZnO nanowires based MSM ultraviolet photodetector exhibited a high sensitivity to 365 nm ultraviolet light, the photocurrent to dark current ratio can reach 9.44×103 with a voltage bias of 5 V, and the response and recovery time were also fast. Schottky barrier mechanism was employed to explain the results.

Abstract:Time reversal techniques and its applications in acoustics and electromagnetics are reviewed in this paper. First, Brief descriptions of time reversal process and time reversal imaging are given. Then, under the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) and multi-scattering cases, time reversal imaging techniques based on time reversal operator-decomposition of the time reversal operator (DORT under its French language acronym) and time reversal multiple signal classification (TR-MUSIC) are discussed in detail. The progress of time reversal imaging method is retrospected and a conclusion and some advice are given at last.

Abstract:Photoconductivity has been systematically studied in unintentionally doped n-type InN film with super-bandgap excitation (1.53 eV) at temperatures varying in the range of 100-300 K. A negative photoconductivity is observed at room temperature, whereas it gradually changes to be positive with decreasing temperature. Transition temperature from negative to positive photoconductivity is found to be greatly related to the residual electron concentration as the higher the electron concentration the lower the transition temperature. An energy band model including a donor state with large lattice relaxation as well as a recombination center is proposed, which explains the experimental observation well.

Abstract:Structure and magnetic properties have been investigated on the nanogranular systems of ferrimagnetic (Ferri) CoCr2O4 nanoparticles embedded in antiferromagnetic (AFM) Cr2O3 matrix, synthesized by a phase segregation route from diluted Cr2(1-x)Co2xO3 (x=0.1) oxides. The CoCr2O4 nanoparticles with average particle size (DCCO) from 8 to 60 nm can be produced by varying synthesis temperatures. Magnetization measurement show that, both exchange bias fields (HEB) and vertical magnetization shift (MShift) can be found at 10 K after field-cooled from 350 K. With increasing particle size (DCCO), both HEB and MShift decrease monotonically and finally disappear as particle size is above 60 nm. The linear relationship between HEB and MShift indicates that the interfacial frozen uncompensated spins play a critical role in inducing exchange bias effect.

Abstract:Through finding and analyzing derivatives of group delay and transmittance of coupled double-ring resonators (CDRRs) with respect to coupling coefficients and amplitude transmission factors, influences of these parameters on group delay and transmittance at different conditions are investigated. Combing the parameter conditions for fast or slow light as mode splitting appears, comprehensive performance-parameter relations are provided to illustrated status of group velocity control and trends of group delay and transmittance variations simultaneously. These relations can be used as a straightforward guidance for parameter choice and optimization of CDRRs for group velocity control applications.

Abstract:A recent experiment [E. Ideguchi, et al., Phys. Lett. B 686 (2010) 18] found a superdeformed rotational band in 40Ar, which is analyzed by using the projected shell model. Calculations with axial symmetry deformation are performed up to spin I = 18 state. Our calculation indicates a perfect collective rotational behavior of the 40Ar superdeformed band till the band termination spin. A multiparticle-multihole configuration is found to interpret the observed superdeformed band. The calculated transitional quadrupole moments Qt and B(E2) values can reproduce the existing experiment data reasonable well, and therefore, can provide a prediction for the high spin region where no data for Qt and B(E2) exist. We suggest that effect of triaxial superdeformation is very small in this spin range.
