Abstract:A robust distributed beamforming approach for time asynchronous cooperative communications systems is developed. In this method, the effect of time-asychronization is considered. The minimum receiving SINR on the destination is maximized subject to the constraints that individual relay transmitted power is limited. This distributed beamforming problem is shown to be a quasi-convex problem and can be solved using semi-definite programming along with a bisection search method. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is robust to the time-asychronization and its performance is better than both the MRC and the non-robust method.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the throughputperformance of physical-layer network coding (PNC) under the IEEE802.11 distributed coordination function (DCF). We consider thewireless network that two client groups communicate with each otheracross one relay node, and focus on the unsaturated network case. The difficulty in modeling the relay systems under the IEEE 802.11DCF is that the minimum contention window sizes of the client nodesand the relay node may be different, which makes the traditionalthroughput analysis methods for the non-relay wireless networksinapplicable. Fortunately, we find that the relay system can bedecomposed into four parts and respectively modeled. Analyticalresults show that the throughput gain of PNC scheme is heavilyaffected by the probability that a transmitted network-coding (NC)packet contains the information of two packets. The implication isthat the throughput benefit of PNC is more significant forbidirectional isochronous traffic with rate requirements. We furtherderive an approximate closed-form solution of the optimaltransmission probability of client nodes that maximizes the PNCnetwork throughput. We validate our analytical model throughextensive simulations and discuss the relationship between the PNCnetwork throughput and other system parameters, such as the minimumcontention window sizes of both the client nodes and the relaynode.

Abstract:A novel frequency-doubling optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) based on stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) and double sideband with suppressed carrier (DSB-SC) modulation is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. A polarization modulator (PolM) in combination with an optical polarizer realizes DSB-SC modulation generating a frequency-doubling signal, and the SBS effect provides a gain to amplify optical carrier which ensure a fundamental frequency signal be recovered to keep oscillating in the OEO. In the experiment, the frequency-doubled 6, 9.976 and 20.062 GHz microwave signal are generated.

Abstract:In wireless communication networks, the cooperative communication performance depends on careful resource allocation. This paper considers the problem of resource sharing among selfish nodes in wireless cooperative networks. In the system, each node can act as a source as well as a potential relay, and both nodes are willing to achieve an extra rate increase by jointly adjusting their channel bandwidth and power levels for cooperative relaying. First, a two-user algorithm is proposed to bargain joint bandwidth and power allocation(JBPA) between two users. Then a multiuser bargaining algorithm is developed based on the Hungarian method. NBS is applied to formulate the JBPA problem to guarantee fairness. And, the optimal coalitions are formed by using the Hungarian method, such that the overall network rate increase is also maximized for multiple users. Simulation results indicate the Nash bargaining solution(NBS) resource sharing is fair and the fairness of resource allocation only depends on how much contribution its partner can make to its rate increase. Meanwhile, the proposed algorithm has fast convergence to the optimum and the multiuser bargaining algorithm can guarantee fairness between cooperative partner, but also maximize the overall network rate increase.

Abstract:This paper presents an analytical study on the outage performance of amplify-and-forward (AF) two-way relay system with multi-antenna relay node (RN).Two major bidirectional protocols, i.e., two time slots multiple access broadcast (MABC) protocol and three time slots time division broadcast (TDBC) protocol, are considered respectively. For both considerations, we first assume that instantaneous channel-state-information (CSI) is unavailable at RN, thus RN just simply uses the fixed relay gain derived from statistical CSI to scalethe received signals before forwarding. We then consider the scenario where RN can obtainthe instantaneous CSI to perform the zero-forcing (ZF) relayprecoding. The closed-form expressions ofoutage probability are derived for all cases.Based on these expressions, the diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) is further obtained for the MABC protocol. The analytical results show that, for non-precoding MABC scheme, the diversity order of 1 can only be obtainedand it is irrelevant to the relay antenna number M. While for theZF-precoding case, the diversity order of M-1 can be obtained.

Abstract:Cognitive radio (CR) is of special significance to improve spectrum utilization, and spectrum allocation is one of the key technologies in the realization of cognitive radio. The spectrum allocation problem considered in this paper aims to maximize the throughput of the second users (SUs) within the transmit power limit of SUs and the PU interference constraint. Based on the throughput maximization model in CR network, the spectrum allocation algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed in this paper. According to the feature of CR, the interference caused by SUs transmission to the primary users must be taken into consideration, which makes the spectrum allocation problem different from other networks. Simulated annealing (SA) and roulette strategy are introduced to avoid algorithm prematurity of PSO and further improve the algorithm performace. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed PSO based spectrum allocation algorithm outperform the commonly used color-sensitive graph coloring (CSGC) and greedy algorithms.

Abstract:This paper studies two-way communications over a three-node Gaussian and Fading relay channel. Six-step opportunistic protocol and superimposed XOR-based decode-and-forward (DF) relay scheme are present. The achievable rate regions of the proposed opportunistic strategy have been analyzed by optimal time control and considering unequal packet length. For comparison, two-step protocol with optimal or equal time control and bitwise XOR-based DF and superposition-based DF are considered, respectively. This paper also studies the performance of weighted maximum sum-rate for the proposed 6-step opportunistic strategies at different relay locations in Rayleigh channel from three point of view: 1) maximum sum-rate without any constraint. 2) rate pairs under maximum weighted sum-rate with fairness. 3) service delay versus packet arrival rate with queue.

Abstract:Genetic Algorithm (GA) has proven to be a useful method of optimization for multidimensional engineering problems. A new method named Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has been proposed by Kennedy and Eberhart and it is similar in some ways to GA or Evolutionary Programming (EP). In this paper, we apply PSO to solve the Multiuser Detection (MUD) problems in the DS-CDMA system, which reduces the computational complexity by providing faster convergence. The simulation results show that the proposed detections benefit greatly from the PSO and have significant performance improvements over Conventional Detector (CD) and previous multiuser detectors based on GA and EP in terms of bit-error-rate and convergence rate.

Abstract:For orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) communication systems, the frequency offset in mobile radio channels distort the orthogonality between subcarriers, which results in Intercarrier Interference(ICI) and seriously degrades the performance of systems. In this paper, based on ICI coefficients analysis, a novel precoder design scheme is proposed for mitigation of ICI in OFDM mobile systems. In this technique, precoder matrix is designed by the way of linear combination, counteraction and inserted in the former of transmitter signal, the received signals can be linear recovered without bandwidth efficiency reduced. BER performances are analyzed for the proposed scheme. Computer simulation results show that this new scheme can effectively reduce ICI and significantly provide the carrier-interference power ratio improvement. Compared with existing ICI mitigation schemes with channel estimation, the proposed scheme has lower computational complexity, and compared with self-cancellation scheme, the bandwidth efficiency can be improved in this proposed scheme. The proposed scheme has also better convergence stability for time-varying frequency selective fading channel.

Abstract:In order to study the impact of channel estimation error on the channel capacity of a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system, a novel method is proposed to explore the channel capacity under correlated Rayleigh fading. The system model is constructed based on the channel estimation error at the receiver side. And using the properties of Wishart distribution, the lower bound on the channel capacity is derived when the MIMO channel is full rank. And then a method is proposed to select the optimum set of transmit antennas based on the lower bound on the mean channel capacity. The proposed method based only on the fading correlation and not the instantaneous channel realization. And also its computational complexity is low and tends to be realized. The simulation results show that the channel capacity of MIMO system is sensitive to the channel estimation error. The channel capacity is maximized when the signal-to-noise increases to a certain point. Antenna selection of transmitter can increase the channel capacity of MIMO system by about 1bit/s in a flat fading environment with rank deficient channel.
