Abstract:Area spectral efficiency (ASE) is an important performance metric for cellular networks, which is typically studied under simple regular grid models. However, the regular grid model is not suitable for heterogeneous cellular networks (HCNs), since base stations (BSs) of each tier are randomly distributed with different power levels. Through stochastic geometry models, the ASE metric in a two-tier HCN consisting of macrocell BSs and picocell BSs is investigated in this study. Poisson point process distribution of BSs and splitted user association is assumed, which means that each user can associate to different BSs in uplink and downlink communications with improved throughput of HCNs. Both the uplink ASE based on Poisson Voronoi tessellation (PVT) and the downlink ASE based on weighted PVT are analyzed. Aiming at providing a tractable model and method to better characterize the performance of HCNs, the ASE metric is evaluated both through theoretical derivations and numeric simulations.

Abstract:In this paper, a new positioning method is proposed. Radio Frequency Pattern Matching (RFPM), also known as fingerprinting, is a positioning method proposed in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) RAN4 meetings for UE positioning. The localization accuracy of RFPM is highly related with the number of measurement elements for pattern matching. Using inter-RAT measurements not only adds additional measurements but also introduces the measurements from different radio access technologies (RAT). As these RATs may have a significantly different interference environment than that of the Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, the positioning geometry can be improved. In this paper, the inter-RAT elements are adopted to improve the positioning accuracy of RFPM, and the Cramer-Rao lower bound is deduced to evaluate the accuracy. By combining inter-RAT measurements with the existed RFPM method, the simulation results revealed an improved accuracy of the proposed method by more than 30% compared to only using one RAT measurements. The results are promising and show a great potential to improve the RFPM positioning performance with the help of additional inter-RAT measurements.

Abstract:In recent years, Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications have become important services with large market potential. M2M communication is defined as the communication among devices without human interactions. Because of the features such as large number of devices, small data transmissions and vast applications range, M2M communications have posed significant challenges to the existing networks which are based on human-to-human (H2H) communications. In this paper, we propose a user association scheme with resource reservation mechanism which can guarantee the quality of service (QoS) of H2H traffics while allocate enough resource to M2M communications. It is formulated as a bargain game optimization problem, which can be resolved by Lagrangian Arithmetic. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve higher throughput for M2M traffics without degrading the QoS of H2H traffics.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the resource allocation problem among multiple cellular users and multiple D2D pairs to optimize the system capacity performance. We study the resource allocation involving resource block (RB) assignment and power allocation, which is difficult to tackle simultaneously. A two-phase resource allocation scheme is proposed to solve the problem. Firstly, an interference graph based heuristic clustering algorithm and a heuristic RB assignment algorithm are performed to realize the RB assignment. The multi-user interference is properly coordinated by clustering and appreciable system capacity is achieved by the RB assignment. Secondly, we assign different powers for all the users to explore a further capacity enhancement. We prove the concavities of the lower and upper bound of the optimization function, thus the power allocation problem becomes a convex optimization problem and we solve it with a low complexity gradient method. Finally, we present simulation results to verify the proposed scheme. It is shown that, with remarkably reduced complexity, our proposed two-phase scheme achieves a near-optimal performance in terms of the system capacity.

Abstract:In this paper; we investigate a new interference mitigation technique to reduce the interference of the primary user caused by the secondary user in CR-MIMO-OFDM systems. More specifically, the interference first is reduced by rough adjustment of the AIC technique and then it is further reduced by fine adjustment of the phase rotation technique. The simulation results show that the proposed interference technique approximately can decrease the interference of the primary user up to 3dB with the same complexity, compared to the conventional AIC technique, for flat fading channels.?????

Abstract:A wideband circularly polarized (CP) microstrip multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna for long term evolution (LTE) systems is proposed. Wideband feed network (WFN) based on coupled-line power divider and phase shifter is introduced to provide two ways of orthogonal signal. Then a square patch loaded with quad-symmetrical slots produces the CP radiation. A unit-cell of frequency selective surfaces (FSS) structure is utilized to enhance the antenna gain. In order to enhance the isolation between the antenna elements and then improve the system performance, polarization diversity is employed. The proposed MIMO antenna is fabricated and measured. The measurement results indicate that S11 < -15 dB impedance bandwidth of 46% from 1.85 to 2.95 GHz, 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 40% from 1.9 to 2.85 GHz, and peak gain of 4.2 dBi are achieved. In addition, diversity performance in terms of envelope correlation coefficients (ECC) and mean effective gain (MEG) is also verified.

Abstract:The traffic load of a centralized network is increasing substantially along with the boom of smart phones and more wireless data service. The situation will be much worse especially on the center of a city, campus, subway station and etc. Effective methods should be taken to change the situation as soon as possible so that we can enjoy a better service. In the places mentioned, there are always a lot of mobiles around. In other words, the nodes have a high opportunity to encounter with each other. More details, the nodes have some similar society properties. All these factors make it feasible that all the nodes transfer data with each other just by themselves and a reasonable transfer mechanism based on opportunistic routing is a good way to resolve the traffic load problem. The opportunistic network is a highly resource limited network and all the nodes go around without a definite path. Any two nodes from them may meet each other for a while and may separate from each other soon. However the nodes can implement communications between nodes based on the “store-carry-forward” routing pattern. The quality of the communications among the nodes highly depends on the corporation among them. However, some selfish nodes and malicious nodes try to break the corporation. Many research tried to solve the problem, but an effective incentive mechanism is urgent needed to enhance the network. This paper proposes a new enhanced incentive mechanism based on reputation, which aims to restrain the selfish nodes and malicious nodes then increase the network capacity and decrease the delivery delay.

Abstract:This paper introduces two new algebraic constructions of quasi-cyclic LDPC codes based on finite fields. Constructions of regular or near-regular codes based on primitive elements and subgroups of a multiplicative group are introduced. The constructions are achieved by dispersing base matrices into arrays of CPMs. Masking can also be applied to all the two resultant parity check matrices for codes with various rates and degree distributions. The codes constructed based on the new approaches perform well with iterative decoding over AWGN channel.

Abstract:In cognitive radio networks, spectrum sensing is a key technology that enables cognitive radio (CR) users to opportunistically access the spectrum resources of the primary networks. To reduce the interference and enhance the throughput of the CR networks, a joint optimal sensing and transmission time scheme is proposed and analyzed based on modeling the interference. A more accurate interference model is analyzed through renewal theory. Theoretical and simulation results show that the proposed allocation scheme has higher data throughput with the constraint interference.

Abstract:In this paper, based on two different methods of numerical simulation- Power Spectrum Inversion Method (PSIM) and Zernike Polynomials Method (ZPM), the phase characteristic of Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beam carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) propagating through turbulent atmosphere is studied theoretically, the random phase screens to emulate atmosphere turbulence are established, since the phase is the most important property of vortex beam, closely related to the topological charge, phase variation after light propagating through the atmosphere is simulated and analyzed. The research results show that the atmosphere turbulence will deteriorate the property of LG beam, as the atmosphere turbulence increases, the phase profile of LG beam become fuzzier, leading to the spread of topological charge, in addition, the simulation results difference based on PSIM and ZPM have also been studied.
