Abstract:The structural and electronic properties of the M13Pt42 (M=Al, Ga, In, Mg, Ca, Sr) clusters, in which the core-shell icosahedral M13 substructures are non-transition metal (TM) elements, are investigated by using first-principles method. Our calculations show that Mg13Pt42, Al13Pt42, Ga13Pt42 acted as oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts is stable while considering both the core-shell interaction energy (Ecs) and the potential energy (Udiss). By analyzing the Partial Density of State (PDOS), we find that it is more favorable to form p-d hybridization than to form d-d hybridization when p-block element cores interact with Pt shell. The absorption energies of O atom show that the adsorption energy of surface is closely related to the charge that the surface gains. Our work may find out new Pt-alloy catalysts for enhancing the ORR activity.

Abstract:In this paper we investigated the radiation properties of metal nanorods at the optical frequency domain and found that they have many features compared with its conventional radio-wave equivalents. After defining a parameter Λ = λeff /λ, which was the ratio of the effective wavelength of the rod antenna to the incident wavelength, we found that Λ had a great influence on the radiation pattern. When the radiation pattern has a higher resonant order, it has a sharper directivity even without side lobes, which provides new design flexibilities in improving the directivities of the optical antennas.

Abstract:An L-shaped nanohole in a gold film is proposed to realize linear polarization rotation of light at subwavelength scale and its optical properties are analyzed using the finite difference time domain method. The mechanism of the polarization rotation is based on the 180 degree phase retardation between two different resonant modes with orthogonal polarization directions in the L-shaped nanohole. The working wavelength of the polarization rotator can be tuned conveniently in the range of 735-1080 nm by varying the hole length.

Abstract:The novel Bi2O2(BO2OH)/BiIO4 heterojunction was successfully synthesized via a facile one-step hydrothermal method. Its characters were detected by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance (DRS). Photocayalytic activity was measured by decomposition of Rhodamine B (RhB) under UV-light irradiation. Compared with Bi2O2(BO2OH), BiIO4 and P25, 35 wt% BiIO4/Bi2O2(BO2OH) exhibits much better performance for degradation. This significant enhancement of degradation dye and prohibitive electron-hole pairs’ recombination should be ascribed to overlapping conduction band and valence band structure.

Abstract:GaAs0.92Sb0.08/Al0.2Ga0.8As MQWs was grown by molecular beam epitaxy. Temperature and excitation power dependent photoluminescence (PL) of the MQWs were investigated in detail. The PL spectra showed a unique emission evolution. Two competitive peaks were observed from 40 to 90 K in temperature dependent PL spectra. The peak located at low energy shoulder was confirmed to be localized states emission (LE) by the long tail and the inverted S-shaped emission band width obtained from the temperature dependent emission. The high energy side peak was confirmed to be free carrier emission by Varshni equation fitting. It is observed that the LE peak exhibited blue shift with the increase of laser excitation power, which can be ascribed to the band filling effect of localized states. As a result, the localized states in GaAs0.92Sb0.08/Al0.2Ga0.8As MQWs have been confirmed and explained by carrier dynamics.

Abstract:It is shown that the Lorentz reciprocity theorem is inadequate toan antenna system with a transmitter and receiver. The correct methodshould be to apply the mutual energy theorem. In the mutual energytheorem, an receiver can send an advanced potential. The mutual energycurrent is a inner product of a retarded potential and an advancedpotential. It is shown that the energy current corresponding to the Poynting vector does not transfer any energy. That means the mutual energy is the only one which can transferthe energy in the free space. It is shown that the mutual energy hasthe property of the photon and wave. This explained that why lightlooks like wave and also particles. The concept of mutual energy currentcomposed of retarded potential and advanced potential also offersa re-explanation for the probability in quantum physics. As a applicationof this theory, the method how to transfer time-reversed or superluminal signal usingadvanced potential is introduced. The reason why a action and reactioncan be done in 0 time with remote distance is also discussed.

Abstract:We study the effect of a single-mode cavity field on the Ramsey interference of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a double-well potential. Based on a mean-field model, we analytically calculate the period of the atomic Ramsey fringes and confirm it by numerical simulations. We show that the period of the fringes is sensitive to both the cavity-pump detuning and the choice of the initial state. In particular, when a weak holding field is introduced, we find that the fringes characterized by the oscillation of the intra-cavity photon number can completely reflect the atomic interference information. This finding suggests a nondestructive observation of the atomic interference fringes via the cavity-field transmission spectra.

Abstract:Antenna system with at least one receive antenna is studied. The resultsand explanations of the reciprocity theorem and the mutual energytheorem are compared. Both the reciprocity theorem and mutual energytheorem can obtained similar results for the directivity diagram ofreceive antenna, but the conditions of the theorems established aredifferent. The mutual energy theorem is established in lossless media, the reciprocity theorem is established in symmetric media. Since theempty space is lossless and symmetric media, hence in empty spaceboth theorems are established. The explanations of the two theoriesare quite different. In the reciprocity theorem both transmitter andreceiver send retarded potentials. In the mutual energy theorem thetransmitter sends retarded potential and the receiver sends advancedpotential. This article studies the case where the media is lossy.Assume the media is still symmetric, hence the reciprocity theorem still established. The same result can be obtained by the reciprocity theorem comparedto the case where the media is lossless. For the mutual energy theoremit is not established in lossy media. However it can be extended tolossy media with a energy lossy item. From mutual energy theorem wecan obtained a correct result that the energy sends out by the transmitterequals to the energy loss on the media pluses the received energyof the receiver. Hence the extended mutual energy theorem can offercorrect result and the reciprocity theorem cannot. The result of this articlecan be further tested by a transmitter and receiver antenna in saltwater. If the mutual energy theorem wins that is not only offer amethod for antenna calculation in lossy media, but also further supportsthe absorber theory of Wheeler and Feynman, and the transactionalinterpretation for quantum physics and hence is very meaningful.

Abstract:The first-principle calculations for the structural, dynamic and thermodynamic properties of the IIB-VIA Zn-based compound semiconductors ZnX (X=O, S, Se, Te) with wurtzite structure are preformed in this work. The density-functional perturbation theory are applied to obtain the Born effective charge tensors, the phonon dispersion curves, as well as corresponding density of states. The results shows that the Born effective charge tensors are anisotropic and exhibit the anisotropy of material itself. The calculated phonon frequencies of ZnO and ZnS at Γ point and along high symmetry directions are in agreement with other calculations and experimental data. The phonon contributions to the internal energy, free energy, entropy and specific heat are determined within the harmonic approximation based on the calculated phonon dispersion relations. The calculated results of entropy are slightly larger than the experimental values by about 4.5%, since the effects of anharmonicity are ignored and the theoretical lattice constants are used in the calculations.

Abstract:We propose a feasible scheme to realize nonlinear Ramsey interferometer that uses a Bose-Einstein condensate in an optical cavity, where the nonlinearity arises both from the mean-field treatment of the coherent atomic interaction and the atom--cavity-filed coupling. We present numerical simulations to study the effects both of the cavity-pump detuning and the initial state on the Ramsey interference fringes in the time domain. We find that both the modification to the fringe's period induced by the atom--cavity-field coupling and the visibility of the Ramsey fringes strongly depend on the choice of the initial state.
