Abstract:Clustering sensor nodes is an effective technique to prolong the lifetime of wireless sensor networks. In this paper we investigate the impact of heterogeneity of nodes, in terms of their energy and data amount, and propose a novel adaptive, distributed, energy efficient clustering algorithm AEEC for wireless sensor networks, which better suits the heterogeneous sensor networks. Our approach elects cluster heads based on the node energy relative to that of whole network, which can employ energy more efficiently in heterogeneous networks. Simulation results show that AEEC can prolong the stable region of lifetime compared to the other clustering algorithm, and the average throughput is increased effectively of wireless sensor networks. Abstract:This paper proposes TA-MAC, a medium access control (MAC) protocol designed for wireless sensor networks. Previously proposed MAC protocols for WSNs aim to provide energy efficiency by using a periodical active/sleep scheme. However, they may not provide adaptivity to various traffic conditions while ensuring reduction in energy consumption. To handle variations in traffic load, TA-MAC introduces a mechanism that active nodes try to notify nodes a few hops away of what is going on so that the latter could be ready when data arrives. Besides, TA-MAC introduces a way to protect data from loss because of the limit of the buffer. Our simulation results show that our proposed protocol achieves significant improvements on the throughput for traffic load variations, while still ensuring energy savings compared with other MAC protocols designed for sensor networks such as T-MAC.

Abstract:In this paper, we present an algorithm to construct the convolutional multicast network coding over any finite directed cyclic graph from a brand-new point. In this algorithm, we consider the dual line graph of a directed cyclic graph as a system, in which the global encoding kernels in the original graph are the corresponding inputs or outputs and the local encoding kernels in original graph are gains of channels. Then we can construct the convolutional multicast by using the classical Mason formula on the system.

Abstract:Nowadays, there are numerous Web services with specific capabilities within various networks, which can be used by mobile users. How to find a suitable service is a challenging task for a user and matchmaking is the key for the service discovery. In this paper we propose a matching algorithm measuring the similarity of the request with each of the advertised services based on OWL-S. As a description language of semantic Web services, OWL-S increases flexibility of Web service description, enriches expressiveness and provides a capability-based mechanism of Web service discovery. In order to obtain a precise matching result the user profile is taken into account in the presented algorithm. The proposed technique is applied to a sample test and experimental results are presented demonstrating the effectiveness of the idea.

Abstract:The quality of service management - QoSM is an important evaluation factor for service management in NGN. To evaluate QoSM efficiently, it is necessary and elementary to define an evaluation metrics and find an evaluation method. First, the evaluation metrics for QoSM based on SLA’s service management contents is proposed. Fuzzy evaluating is a method based on fuzzy mathematics. It is suitable to evaluate an object with many factors which have different infections to the object and interactions to each other. A fuzzy evaluating method to evaluate QoSM based on above evaluation metrics is designed. At last, an example of evaluating is described to illuminate that the fuzzy evaluating method for the QoSM of NGN is useful and correct.

Abstract:In multi-level HMIPv6 networks, the handover performance greatly depends upon selection of the MAP[2][7][8][9]. This paper proposes a novel MAP selection scheme based on minimal average handover delay (MAHD-MS). By analyzing the handover procedure and modeling the mobility pattern of mobile nodes, we deduce an equation for estimating the average handover latency, and then design the procedure of MAHD-MS scheme. Through extensive simulations with NS-2 simulator, we demonstrate the effectiveness of MAHD-MS scheme.

Abstract:IEEE 802.16d broadband wireless access system is an alternative which can meet the requirement of providing high bandwidth and full quality of service (QoS) connecting to the backbone network. However, QoS architecture and corresponding schemes are not specified in the IEEE 802.16d standard although the signaling mechanism is defined in it. In our paper, a most efficient QoS architecture with scheduling and bandwidth allocation schemes is proposed definitely based on the MAC protocol specified in IEEE 802.16d standard. After that, simulation results are shown with OPNET module based on our mechanism.

Abstract:A soft interference probabilistic data association (SC-PDA ) detector is proposed for multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) system, which can provide a better performance than probabilistic data association (PDA) detector with lower complexity. The MIMO doubly-iterative receiver consists of two iterative decoding loops. In the outer loop, the soft information is exchanged between the MIMO detector and the LDPC decoder. In the inner loop, it is exchanged between variable node and check node decoders inside the LDPC decoder. On the light of the extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart technique, a LDPC code degree profile optimization algorithm is developed for the doubly-iterative receiver. Simulation results show the doubly-receiver with SC-PDA can have a better performance than the one with PDA, additional performance gains can be achieved by employing the optimized irregular LDPC code than the regular one.

Abstract:Providing Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees for heterogeneous classes of traffic with different QoS requirements in fixed Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system is a very important issue. Although IEEE 802.16d MAC protocol has been proposed to support QoS for various kinds of applications, there are still some key points undefined in the protocol, such as the resource allocation and bandwidth request algorithms etc. In this paper, we propose a new resource allocation algorithm for the IEEE 802.16d protocol and present a novel resource reservation scheme. Our algorithm provides QoS support to real-time traffic with high priority while maintaining bandwidth to low priority traffic. Analytical and simulation results illustrate our architecture.
