Abstract:Timing synchronization is a preeminent challenge in ultra-wideband impulse radios (UWB-IRS). The conventional all-digital synchronization methods encounter some formidable implementation difficulties such as high rate sampling and high complexity RAKE structure. To avoid these challenges, semi-analog methods have been motivated recently. We propose a code-assisted blind synchronization (CABS) algorithm to realize timing synchronization blindly with the help of the discriminative property of both time hopping codes and well designed polarity codes. The algorithm requires sampling at the frame rate only and by passes channel estimation during the synchronization phase. Finally, this paper was analyzed using computer simulations.

Abstract:In this paper, the improved FM-DCSK system is studied, further based on the scheme, a differential-encoding method is presented to simplify the receiver configuration. The BER performance of the different FM-DCSK systems including proposed one is investigated both over AWGN and multipath channels. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme has a robust performance both in AWGN and multipath channels. Comparing with the improved FM-DCSK, our proposed scheme not only has a comparable BER performance both over AWGN and multipath channels, but also puts the improved FM-DCSK into practice.

Show/Hide Abstract | Cite this paper︱Full-text: PDF (0 B)
Abstract:We present a system of chaos communication based on two synchronized semiconductor lasers. When synchronization is obtained, messages are added to the slave and transmitted to the master through an additional reverse link other than transmitted from the mater to the slave. Simulation results show that, in this system, synchronization quality is not affected by messages, and decoding quality is not constrained by chaos pass filtering effect. Finally, an extension of this system is discussed to increase the communication security.

Abstract:Formulation and solution of the vector radiative transfer equation in a finite slab of stochastic precipitation medium of binary rain rates are considered. The electromagnetic wave is supposed to encounter alternating layered segments of the two precipitation media, each with a deterministic rain rate. Both the backscattering coefficient and the bistatic coefficient are derived by taking an ensemble average of the iterative solution for the deterministic vector radiative transfer equation. Computer simulations are given to verify the solutions via Monte Carlo method, to feature the distinctiveness of stochastic precipitation system, and to illustrate the relationship between the stochastic parameters and the final results. It is also derived from the computer simulations that a finite slab of stochastic precipitation medium could be treated as an average rain-rate precipitation layer with an acceptable approximation.

Abstract:An iterative decoding algorithm for serial concatenated codes when the outer code is BCH code and the inner codes is convolutional code is proposed. To implement the soft decision decoding of BCH code, a near-optimal decoding algorithm with modified metrics and Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm based on trellis diagram is proposed and modified BCJR algorithm is applied for iterative decoding of convolutional code. The simulation results of are given on the AWGN channel with BPSK modulation, showing that compared with hard-decision decoding, the proposed algorithm can achieve a coding gain of at least 1.5 dB for a BER (Bit Error Rate) of 10^-4.

Show/Hide Abstract | Cite this paper︱Full-text: PDF (0 B)
Abstract:Channel capacity has important role in the analysis and design of the communication systems. Unfortunately, for the commonly used one- or two-dimensional modulation constellations, there is no closed form formula to calculate such capacity. In this paper, some simple approximation formulas are presented for evaluating the symmetric capacity of the commonly used constellations under additive white Gaussian noise channel with perfect channel state information at receiver.

Abstract:Providing Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees for heterogeneous classes of traffic with different QoS requirements in fixed Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system is a very important issue. Although IEEE 802.16d MAC protocol has been proposed to support QoS for various kinds of applications, there are still some key points undefined in the protocol, such as the resource allocation and bandwidth request algorithms etc. In this paper, we propose a new resource allocation algorithm for the IEEE 802.16d protocol and present a novel resource reservation scheme. Our algorithm provides QoS support to real-time traffic with high priority while maintaining bandwidth to low priority traffic. Analytical and simulation results illustrate our architecture.

Abstract:Meijer’G function is an important tool for the capacity analysis of orthogonal space-time block codes (OSTBCs) over fading channels. In this paper, using Meijer’G function, we derive some novel formulas on the average capacity and outage probability of OSTBCs over usual flat Rayleigh fading channel. These formulas can be also expressed using complementary incomplete gamma function. Moreover, we also give an average capacity expression of OSTBCs over Rayleigh fading channel with keyhole.
