	Abstract: In order to elucidate the mechanism of Buyang-Huanwu decoction in TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway in AKI-to-CKD mice. We constructed animal model of AKI-to-CKD by renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). We grouped the mice, assessed renal function on the 30th day after modeling, tested the level of α-SMA and TGF-β/Smad pathways, and detected the changes of Fut8 and VEGF R2 levels and core fucosylation of TGF-βRⅡ. The results show that Buyang-Huanwu decoction also down-regulates the level of Fut8 and core fucosylation of TGF-βRII, up-regulates the level of VEGF R2, inhibits the activation of TGF-β/Smad, and eases the process of IRI. These data indicate that Buyang-Huanwu decoction could inhibit the activation of TGF-β/Smad pathway by inhibiting the Fut8 and then block the pathological process of AKI-to-CKD.

	Abstract:Purpose: To explore the drug targets and potential mechanisms of Bu-Yang-Huan-Wu-Tang (BYHWT) in the treatment of acute kidney injury (AKI) through network pharmacology and experimental validation. Methods: A network-based analysis research approach was used to predict the main active ingredients, targets of action and potential signaling pathways of BYHWT for AKI treatment. The protective effect of BYHWT on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) was verified by detecting the PI3K/AKT/FOXO1 signaling pathway and related factors through in vitro experiments. Results：A total of 124 active components of BYHWT were screened, with 444 action targets, 1,708 AKI disease-related target genes, and 210 targets at the intersection of components and diseases were obtained. Through GO and KEGG enrichment analysis, we obtained 219 signaling pathways of BYHWT for the treatment of AKI, and screened the top 10 pathways with the highest degree of enrichment, which involved the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway, and the experimental validation results showed that BYHWT-containing serum increased the expression of p-PI3K, p-AKT, and p-FOXO1, and increased the phosphorylation of FOXO1, and decreased the expression of FOXO1 expression. Conclusion: BYHWT may play a role in ameliorating endothelial cell apoptosis and protecting injured endothelial cells by regulating the PI3K/AKT/FOXO1 pathway.

	Abstract:Evodiamine (EVO) is an alkaloid extracted from the dried and nearly ripe fruits of Euodia rutaecarpa used as an anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and anti-obesity agent. However, robust evidence of preclinical experiments has been lacking so far. As a consequence, a systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to assess the anti-tumor effect of evodiamine combined therapy. The search engine and electronic databases includes PubMed, Scopus, China Knowledge Resource Integrated Database (CNKI) and SinoMed. Stata 15.0 was used for data extraction. Tumor volume and tumor weight were evaluate at a 95% confidence level using random effects model. Begg\'s test and funnel plot were used for the evaluation of publication bias. Sensitivity analysis is used to investigate the stability of results.A total of 7 studies and 108 animals were included. Overall, EVO reduced tumor volume(SMD=-25.64,95% CI: -5.77 -3.13,I2=92.5%, P<0.05) and tumor weight(SMD=-8.91,95% CI: -16.37, -1.44,I2=94.1%, P<0.05). As a result, EVO combined therapy appears to be more effective compared with monotherapy. Moreover, EVO has a potential to alleviate the toxicity of chemotherapeutic agents, which increases the translatability to the clinical situation.

	Abstract:Fufang Xueshuantong Capsule (FXC) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula composed of four herbs including Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Astragali Radix, Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, and Scrophularize Radix. Long-term, extensive clinical applications have confirmed that FXC could exert significant effects on fundus vascular diseases and stable angina pectoris. This review aims to systematically analyze and summarize the existing researches involving quality and efficacy re-evaluation of FXC, point out the typical problems, and further propose some opinions to contribute to future study. As a result, this review outlines the chemical profiles, quality control, pharmacokinetic and pharmacological properties of FXC based on reported results. Some problems are pointed out for FXC: the quality control needs further improvement, the pharmacokinetic properties have not been comprehensively investigated, and in-depth and systematic mechanism researches are scarce. Hereon we propose several directions for future study: (a) establishment of feasible HPLC or LC-MS based quantitative methods for simultaneous determination of multiple components to monitor the overall quality; (b) pharmacokinetic studies concerning humans, drug-drug interactions, and correlation with pharmacodynamics; (c) pharmacological mechanism researches integrating multi-omics technologies (gut microbiome, metabolomics, etc.).

	Abstract:Scutellariae Radix is a Chinese herb for detoxification. Efficient extraction of its main active components baicalin and saccharides is interesting to pharmaceutical and cosmetic fields. The baicalin and saccharides were efficiently extracted with aqueous two-phase systems (ATPSs) Ethanol-(NH4)2SO4-H2O (EtSO) and Ethanol-cosolvent-(NH4)2SO4-H2O (EtSO-cosolvent). The factors such as pH, (NH4)2SO4 concentration, ethanol fraction, cosolvent fraction, extraction time and temperature were optimized and thermodynamics for partition was discussed. With the extractions at 48 C for 40 min, the EtSO, EtSO-MtOH and EtSO-Acetone exhibited higher baicalin yield than conventional 70% ethanol system (v/v) by 21.4%, 24.8% and 26.2%, respectively; and they displayed saccharides yield in a similar level to that with water system. By dialysis method the saccharides extracted with ATPS was proved to have similar molecular weight to those extracted with water. Therefore, it is feasible to obtain two birds (two targets) with one stone (ATPS) in high efficiency.

	Abstract:Exocarpium Citri grandis (ECG, called Huajuhong in Chinese) is traditional Chinese herbal medicine and has been used for the treatment of respiratory diseases for hundreds of years. Contained flavonoids have been documented to be the primary active components. Recently, ECG has been listed in a TCM formula in Guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 (Sixth Edition) in China. However, the efficacy and mechanism of ECG in the prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases have not been systematically reviewed. Hence, In this review, we summarized the efficacies of ECG and its pharmacologically active compound naringin in antitussive, expectorant, improving lung function, alleviating acute lung injury, attenuating pulmonary fibrosis, and enhancing antiviral immune response, so as to provide a reference for its clinical application.

	Abstract:To investigate the relationship between SmCPS1 promoter polymorphism and the contents of tanshinones. We sequenced the SmCPS1 gene promoter region together with 388bp downstream from the translation start site and the content of tanshinones of 12 different germplasm of Salvia miltiorrhiza. To separate the functional polymorphic loci that may be related with the content of tanshinones from those not, the cis-elements of SmCPS1 promoter were predicted and analyzed by the Plant Transcriptional Regulatory Map database. We found 1) there was a different correlation between the polymorphism in the promoter region and the contents of the tanshinones. 2) Polymorphism on nine cis-elements, an 33bp insertion/deletion sequence and three tandem repeat variations in the sequence of SmCPS1 promoter may be related to the contents of tanshinones. These findings showed the relationships between SmCPS1 promoter polymorphism and tanshinones.

	Abstract:This paper reports the pharmacokinetic properties of Terminalia phenolics after administration of Alatan-5 which is a compound Mongolian medicine containing the fruit of T. chebula in combination with four other medicines. Gallic acid, ellagic acid, casuarinin, and chebulic acid were detected and quantified in the rat plasma. Gallic acid showed the largest AUC value among these four constituents when Alatan-5 was administrated, and its AUC value was larger than when T. chebula fruit was used alone. While the AUC values of the other constituents were smaller when Alatan-5 was used than when T. chebula fruit was administrated alone. These data indicated that gallic acid and other Terminalia phenolics could play important roles in the pharmacologic effects of Alatan-5 and that other medicines in this compound Mongolian medicine could greatly alter the pharmacokinetic behaviors of Terminalia phenolics.

	Abstract:Chinese five element theory (CFET) has been a long-standing puzzle in both Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine. The scientific explanation of the theoretical basis of CFET has been a difficult challenge for scientists. In particular, the composition, mutual promotion and mutual restraint of the five elements of CFET have been the focus of scientific debates. How to use scientific methods to clarify the philosophical principles is the urgent problem to be solved. CFET was discovered by the ancient observing the celestial naked-eye planets and their movement rules. The present study aims to explore the relationship between CFET and the operation of solar planets using orbital mechanics and the information entropy theory. Here, the position vector and velocity vector of the solar planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn were calculated based on orbital mechanics, and then the angles in the triangles composed of any three planets were calculated and analyzed. The results of information entropy analysis showed that Jupiter, Mars, Venus and Mercury could build the prototype of the five element theory, and the introduction of Earth could further improve and perfect the theory of the five elements. This papre presents that the motion law of Jupiter, Mars, Venus and Mercury, which could lay the foundations for CFET, also naturally explains CFET's development context and meaning. CFET is closely related to the five solar planets Jupiter, Mars, Earth, Venus and Mercury, could construct a self-organizing system with mirror symmetry breaking, and may reveal the nature of the origin of all things..

	Abstract:Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disease. There is still no cure, but there are medicines in clinical use. The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for clinical treatment of AD has become a research trend. TCM's composition is more competitive than TCM's compound in the international market because it is similar to the western medicine compound. Fufang Danshen (FFDS)'s composition (including Tanshinone IIA, Notoginsenoside R1 and borneol) for AD's treatment has not been repoted up to now. Our purpose was to explain whether the FFDS' composition improves learning and memory ability based on a mouse model indued by a combination of d-galactose (D-gal) and aluminum muriate (AlCl3). AlCl3 and D-gal were administrated into mice through intraperitoneal injection for 90 days to build AD model, and then Huperzine A and FFDS' composition were used for treatment by intragastric administration for 2 weeks. Memory function was evaluated using Morris water maze (MWM). The subcellular structure of neurons, namely Nissl bodies, was analysed by Nissl staining. ELISA assay was used to assess the levels of INF-γ and IL-4 in serum. MWM test reveals that FFDS' composition can repair the learning and memory impairment of AD mice caused by long-term intake of AlCl3 and D-Gal. ELISA assay shows that FFDS' composition can significantly decrease the serum levels of INF-γ in AD mice, and relieve the inflammation reaction related to INF-γ. Nissl staining results show FFDS' composition can obviously improve the morphology of the neuron. Our results support the use of traditional medicinal herbs containing FFDS' composition for neuroprotection and memory loss.
